remington 600 extractor

i'm new and this is my first question. i have a remington 600 in 222 rem. that needs a new extractor. it is a riveted extractor and they are hard to find. i have looked at a remington bolt that has a snap in extractor and it looks like it might be possible to use a snap in extractor in place of the riveted extractor. can anyone verify if this is possible? thanks

Brownells has what you need.

No, the snap-in is not a suitable replacement in a rivetted extractor bolt head. There are differences in the bolt heads. Look at one of each, side by side and the difference is apparent.

OK, that settles that, and thanks a bunch. next question is, can some other tool be used to brad the rivet other than an extractor anvil? it appears that it might need to have a bit of a rim. I was considering turning something out on a lathe if i can't come up with something else. It loks like a simple job, except for maybe that specialty tool.

The rivets are soft so a soft mandrel/anvil would work for a few installs. I just ground a 5/16 hex,Allen) wrench to have a radius on one side and a slot that mimics an extraction groove. Used it a lot of times. I clamp the anvil in a vise for support. Many small taps with a 2oz-4oz trigger is best for peening the rivet over.

Thanks a bunch, sir. I have an extractor and rivet on the way and will definitely be using it. just thought if a snap in would work, it would be a lot simpler to install. I compared a snap in extractor bolt this morning, but the extractor was still in the bolt head and looked like, possibly, it would work if the rivet hole was used as a recess for one end of the snap in extractor.
