Remington 540XR compatibility with others (stocks)

Don Stith's website says he makes a benchrest stock for the 540x and it would be for a single shot if it for BR. I don't know if anything I read is current but it said $200-250. might be worth a call. Nice guy that does good work, if he is still doing stocks.
Don Stith passed away- RIP
both Don and Mark worked together, Mark apparently did the carving, and don did the finishing work

I have owned 541T's with two action screws and also some with only one action screw. Every 541S I owned had two action screws.
I suspect that when they dropped the 541S (roll engraved receiver) they used up what was on hand to make 541T models (same receiver minus the roll engraving). Then when they had used up the on-hand 541T receivers they started using 581 receivers which only have one action screw.

Sort of the same thing with triggers - 541S and some 541T triggers had full 3 screw adjustments, then towards the end of the 541T run they used the one screw adjustment 580/581/582 triggers.

From a business/production standpoint it makes a lot of sense to me.

The 581 came as a single shot or repeater, single shot was same set up with an adapter. I have owned many and built and converted many. The actions all drop in each with barrel profile being the difference. Great little actions and very accurate as was the 788.

If you are going to paint I have used numerous Anschutz stocks which I prefer. Just fill and re-inlet.

Still looking for a stock. I had a gentleman sent me a pic of a stock he had and I miss the post until yesterday. I have PM'ed him as well as responded to his post. Hope to hear back from him. If I could do the inletting and shaping, I would glue two boards together. I can find the wood, but don't have the duplicator or routing tools.
