What are you looking to do ?
There are good choices for a great stock or copy of Original?
I have done a couple 96% inlets from Richards. I was pretty happy with the results but, it took some work. If you don't mind taking your time and you are happy with the styles they have, give it a try.
One of the stocks I did was for an Anschutz 54 BR rifle. I bought a 2nd in, I believe it was, their "semi fancy" walnut and I was very happy with the wood. It was a 2 1/2" width and I wanted a 3" so I had to add aluminum rails to get the width I wanted but, it was a fun project. The other was just a laminated stock and it was pretty easy to fit and finish.
They aren't crazy expensive so, even if you mess something up, you aren't out a ton of money.

Thanks since the gun is not original it does not have to be like the original. I was thinking about their benchrest stock and they will put a 1 1/4 in channel that would work I love the look of walnut or maple but the laminate would be more stable. I don't shoot competition just shoot with friends the original style stock would look ok also. I am getting older didn't know if the bench rest stock would add too much weight the gun is pretty heavy with that bbl. Might have to build a dolly for it. I'm so thrilled with the gun having a ball with it.

Sometimes originals in the RF configuration show up for a decent price. For a while Numrich had them for $50. I should have bought a dozen!
Now they rn about $200.
You could also find a 700 SA BDL varmint Special stock or even an ADL walnut sporter from the 80's or earlier and hog out the barrel channel a little...Brownells sells a took to do it by hand...and it will work fine. Barrel may be a tad longish...

My experience with Richard's goes back aways. It was very, very disappointing and still is. I ordered a stock for a M-70 PRE-WAR, I don't remember the grade of wood, but it is very nice. The 'gun smith' that did the 'inletting' told me it was the wrong stock, after the work was done and he had $400 dollars in his hand. I finished the stock and it shot well, but it had epoxy around the tang. I got lucky and found the proper stock here on Accurate Shooter, the rifle is properly bedded but I haven't been able to shoot it yet. So I still have the expensive stock that fits a M-70 PRE WAR in the corner upsetting me. Thanks for letting me finally vent.

I tried to reach out to Richard's for some help on a Remington 540 stock, even sent pictures per Richard's direction. Crickets !! I called and was advised I would get a call back, again Crickets !!
Customer Service is enough representation for me to pass on them receiving a dime from me.
R-Nunn makes great stocks and is a great friend, I have 4 of them. None finer, but he is retired. He works on stocks when he can find time. He and his family are very busy this time of year.

I have a factory 40xb heavy barrel stock in very good condition. Was refinished with several coats of true oil. Would take $200. Thanks Toms
