diopter for remington 40X

Good morning, I am a new member from Italy. I did a search in the forum but I didn't find any discussion about the topic of my interest. I recently came into possession of a remington 40X RBR cal. 22 lr. I would like to try using it with the diopter and I ask the most experts if there is one specifically dedicated to this weapon. I saw pictures of remington 40X with diopter and on my rifle I noticed two holes on the left side of the action, just above the upper edge of the stock; could these be dedicated to installing a diopter?
thanks.

Welcome Irmin ! I don't know much about the 40X , but I'm thinking Irmin is inquiring about a Peep Sight which I have seen on a few 40X's .

A diopter will screw into the rear sight. It is what you look through to see the front sight. I use them on all my 22s that I use open sights to shoot.

Typically, for target sights there are front and rear signt bases. The sights mount to the bases. Here is a picture of a rear target sight with its base attached.
The bases allow sights to be used for a variety of actions, and facilitate their being removed and replaced without tools.

That would be to mount a base for , I believe, a variety of match grade receiver sights . You should have several options to choose from.
There are several shooters at our club still shooting prone matches with 40 X’s .

Rimfire central has a subsection of their Remington forum dedicated to 37’s and 40X’s. You will find a lot of good information there.

Thank you all for the answers. I am aware of the possibility of mounting a slide on which to install the diopter, but what I wanted to know was whether there was a special attachment to attach to the holes on the left side of the action, not on the top, but on the side. the friend who handed me the gun states that the diopter should be repaired there. if it were true I think that special collateral attacks are necessary. finally, there are no holes or incisions in the nose where the viewfinder can be fixed.
thanks justinp61, I'll try to search there too ...

Champions Choice sells bases for attaching peep/diopter sights using the holes in the side of your action. For a front sight, they are often mounted clamping the barrel ( there are some standard diameters for that).

Language, for everybody:

“Diopter” = in this usage, a magnifying lens. More literally, the number of powers of that
lens.

“Aperture” = the little bitty hole that everybody is talking about here. AKA “peep” and “iris”.

ALL target type rear sights have an aperture, generally adjustable. Not nearly all have a diopter.

You can also get lens holders, single or dual polarization filters, color filters, glare/rain tubes, cylinder correction (solves an astigmatism, at least as far as your rifle is concerned), colored rear covers, and eye cups.

Stick to the basics for now: Gehmann 510 in an adapter to a Redfield International rear sight.

The “slide” you are referring to IS the rail that mounts on the side of the receiver. It’s called, appropriately, a Redfield Rail.

Your sight then attaches to the rail.

An alternative pattern is the RPA (British) grooved rail, but you don’t want that one, as it is specific to their sights.

There is a bit of a language issue, in Europe a peep rear sight is frequently referred to as a “diopter”.

Post a picture of the rail to be sure everyone knows what you have on the rifle. Especially with the possible language issues.
