Remage Barrel Recoil Lug Centering

I am installing a Criterion Remage barrel on a Remington 700 action using one of Northland's recoil lugs and barrel "nut".

I have a Wheeler action wrench that clamps around the action and indexes on the front mounting hole.

The Northland recoil lug comes with a pin on it where you can machine the action for the 3/16" pin to hold the lug in exactly the correct place during assembly.

If I unscrew the pin does anyone have a trick to hold that lug centered during tightening where I don't have to have the action machined?

The lug is tapered and is way smaller than the cutout in the action wrench.

That may be a good idea. For what cutting the notch is gonna cost I can probably buy an inside wrench and a lug centering tool. Plus it will save the finish on the action.

Do you have a suggestion on a manufacturer for both?

How can I tell it will fit the Northland lug?

Thanks

I have no idea what a northland lug is and i go thru a few hundred a year. Most lug manufacturers sell a centering tool or they can tell you which one fits your lug like hollands or regular rem. Klienendorst would probably know since they make all the ones i have. As for the wrench mine are custom made steel but ive seen a bunch that are real nice. If pbike57 makes one and its like his other wrenches it would be at the top of my list.
