Rem. 700 VS .243

I have an very old Remington 700 BDL VS (old wood stocked bull barrel) in .243. Anybody know what twist these barrels are?

Might be 1-9.25. I'm guessing that you are curious to know if you can shoot a heavy/vld out of it.

Get your cleaning rod out and check I think they are 1 in 10

What is the birthdate? My March 1970 6MM Remington is 1-9.25. It shoots the 105 AMAX, never tried anything heavier.

HTH,

I believe the early 244 rem were 10 twist and did not handle the 100's as the 243 did because it was 9.25 twist.
Rem then changed to 9 twist and renamed it to 6mm.

The early 244 Rems were 1-12 (I have a 722 in 244 Rem ) then 1-10 when they switched to 6mm Rem and later 9 1/4 or 9 1/8 one of the other, 243 was 1-10 then 9 1/4 some time in the late 70s early 80s I believe. These do NOT include Custom Shop rifles as I think there were optional twists available from them (40X's) etc..

only to find out for sure, measure,
clean, then take tight patch on cleaning rod with running handle, and push in, marking top of rod at a point, let rod rotate until mark is again at top,

measure,

Bob
