Rem 700 takeoff barrel

I have a new Rem 700 rifle I bought just for the action. The factory barrel is chambered in a caliber I'm not interested in, so I have no practical use for it.

So, my question is, do Rem 700s typically headspace closely enough that a factory take-off would be of interest to anyone?

I am not selling anything here. Just asking about manufacturer consistency.

It might but it might not, they aren’t consistent.

If it came from a RR or RAR prefix action, there is a very good possibility it will fit and headspace correctly on another RR or RAR action. Other serial number ranges, the barrel will probably fit but headspace is a guess.

I would say that probably someone would buy it and take the chance it would work and/or they would do some fitting for proper headspace on their action.
Decent price on classifed and I think it would sell fairly quickly.

They are not consistent
But you WILL, be able to sell it on ebay
Not for much though $50 - $100

It has been my experience that 75% of them will headspace and 90% of them the roll markings will not index.

I have bought a few. They usually get close to proper headspace, but not “on”. I have a 308 barrel on an action that’s 4 thousandths? short. A factory round chambers but it’s snug. I have a couple others that will need a custom ground lug. I buy them because they’re usually cheap and I’m a barrel hoarder.

If you know which action the barrel came off of, you'll know if the barrel will headspace with another action. See attached.
