First, if your "trued" Rem action has had the internal thread straightened and cleaned up you may find that take-off barrel to be a very sloppy fit. But proceeding from there, screw the barrel into the receiver hand tight. Strip the bolt and try it to make sure it will fit the recess in the tenon. Now check the headspace. It should close on the GO gauge,no pressure, just let the bolt flop ) and should not close on the NO GO gauge. If that checks out OK you can go ahead and tighten the barrel and try again. If you are really lucky everything will work, the barrel will index with the lettering and sight screws in the right place. But the chances of that are slim and none if it is indeed a trued action. If it does work go out and buy a lottery ticket because this is your day!

If it turns out that the barrel screws in so far that the bolt won't close on an empty chamber or it won't accept the GO gauge,or both) you will have to deepen the chamber and for that you will need a reamer. You will also have to take a cut on the barrel tenon and bolt nose recess, as necessary.

If it screws in so as to accept the NO GO gauge you will have to chuck it in the lathe and set the whole thing back a turn or two and rechamber and re-cut the tenon and bolt recess.

At this point you will wonder why you ever started this in the first place, all for a cheap take-off barrel.

Do the first part of the procedure and report back with your results. We can then take it from there, in more detail. Good Luck
