What were the measurements he wanted?Talked to Dan again today. He gave me instructions on the phone that I could understand. He also is going to send me a detailed set of written instructions.
Problem was that my bolt was stuck so tightly, that in attempting to get it out of the receiver, I bent it the handle and lifted part of it off the bolt body. He then instructed me to use a vice and press the handle back to touch the receiver, so I could take the measurements he needed. In doing that the bolt handle broke completely off the bolt. I now have to call him again to see what to do next.
What were the measurements he wanted?
1.Measurement procedure with bolt handle attached to bolt body-
Clear action
Remove firing pin assembly from bolt body.
Insert bolt into cleared action & cam/rotate bolt into battery.
Lift handle’s knob to horizontal position.
(3O’clock for RH action - - 9O’clock for LH action)
Insert feeler/thickness gauge between forward surface of bolt handle at step or 1 o’clock position for RH &/or 11 o’clock position for LH action.
Measure to the nearest .001” with out binding bolt rotation.
Annotate clearance measurement onto a 1” long piece of masking tape & stick onto bolt body.
2.Measurement procedure with bolt handle OFF bolt body.
Clear action.
Remove firing pin assembly from bolt body.
Insert bolt into cleared action & cam/rotate bolt into battery.
(A 1/2”-13 tpi cap screw threaded into aft end of bolt body will assist in inserting/rotating bolt body)
While applying slight rearward pressure to bolt body to assure lugs are against integral lugs in front receiver ring-
Scribe a line against rear receiver ring at bolt handle cut.
DO NOT REMOVE SILVER BRAZE FROM FACTORY HANDLE FOOTPRINT.
This is 100% what is happening to me with Lapua brass.... Did you ever figure this out?Butch I am going to give it another try and call him today. I have five bolts I would like to have fixed. I have one rifle I can only use Winchester brass. Lapua gets stuck and I have to use a hammer to get the bold to open.
