Rem 700 Missfires

I have a Rem 700 SA in 300 blackout that will occasionally produce a misfile/non-fire. There will be a very light firing pin mark on them. Open the bolt and close it and they always go off on the second attempt. Sometimes it happens on the first round fired, and other times it might happen on the 10th, or not at all?

Any ideas on the cause?

headspacing on brass, or need to adjust your firing pin protrusion length. Should protrude from the bolt face about .060". Could have a bad firing pin spring too. Maybe the firing pin raceway is all gummed up from never being cleaned. Just gotta check it out and use common sense to troubleshoot it.

Check your brass first. Especially if using factory ammo. Compare fired to non-fired cases

Also check the primer seating-esp. if reloads.
However, leddslinger is most likely correct in his assumptions.
Check on the headspacing first.

You did not say if you had problems with factory or "known good" ammunition-if not, that would lead me away from firing pin assy. problems and more towards the rounds themselves.

Some more information would be helpful.

New rifle??... or if you have had it for a while, has it just started doing this?

New factory ammunition, reloads, or commercial "re-manufactured"?

If you are reloading, FL sizing or neck sizing?

if full reloading are you setting the shoulder back more than a few .000 on the size operation, if you are that can cause the case to move forward away form the bolt face, then once forward incontact with the shoulder of the chamber the next strike will fire
this can also happen with re-manufactured stuff that is excessively sized
bob

If used, or you have ever pierced a primer, remove the shroud/firing pin and check for primer cup material. It will get hung between the bolt body and the pin and cause enough drag to get occasional light strikes.
