Rem 700 extractor broke, just cut the bolt for Mini M16 extractor?

Broke the extractor on Rem 700 308 bolt face bolt. I understand replacements are hen's teeth. Just have it cut for the mini-M16?
 
I would try to get the original fixed first. Then.....you have 2 choices, Sako or M16.
I've done Sako's, and they work flawlessy, IMO, but people don't like them for safety reasons. I needed a replacement bolt for an XP, and got a factory stripped bolt for a model 7. I had the bolt handle replaced, then I bushed the bolt for .480". I then installed a Badger M-16 extractor. It's big, compared to a Sako, and strong!
So once I had the rest of the action work done, I started working with the bolt. The ejector I bought from Gre-Tan worked fine but the springs were too strong. The spring that came with the Badger was very stiff, so I took a spring out of a Bic pen I believe, and fit it to the extractor. I used a dremel and relieved "upper" edge of the extractor claw, basically removed the exposed edge of the claw and rounded the lower edge too.
I played with a couple different springs for the ejector, and got it to flip the case out onto the bench, and NOT hit the scope as many say it will. So far, it has worked well. It can be tuned to work.

If I need to do it again, it will be a Sako.
 
There’s a Remington extractor on eBay for $50.

PT&G told me they were planning a run of the extractors several months ago, haven’t seen them on their website. You might contact them.
 
The mini16 extractors are pretty good if they’re done right. There will always be replacement parts though for the M700.
 
I would pay the $50 and get a factory replacement. I saw a 700 that had been over pressured enough that it blew the Sako extractor out, luckily it had come out at an angle where it hit the front of the rear action cut out of the loading port, the dent it made was impressive enough that it scared me from ever wanting to use a Sako in my Remingtons.

A couple of years ago I had issues with an XP extractor. I donated to midway and Brownels, the money I spent there would have paid for the claw extractor machine work and all.
Don’t know what the replacement part issue was, but it didn’t work for me.
 
Pacific Tool & Gauge has them listed on their website $15.95 ...a few other sites have the less common magnum rivited version. You need a milling machine to install Sako or M16 and I installed the m 16 extractor installed on one of mine, fixtures are available for those who need one. The extractor parts from PT&G were not drop in, they require fitting to operate correctly. I like the standard factory extractor, as it leaves the full strength of the Rem 700 bolt design intact, and used to get them for $8.95 ea. a few yrs. back.

The two I had would cut a notch in the rim when chambering.
