Reloading the Berger 85.5 Hybrid

Not to derail, but are you saying Carlsbad has retired ? Looking to get a bolt bushed and fp turned to.062. Thanks, rsbhunter

I like em a lot so far. Still working on my brass prep and I think I could bring that outlier in with the other. Varget and RE 15.5 TS both work great. Little less velocity with 15.5 but also less pressure = better brass life.

Very nice. We both seem to be in the same area.
I just had a barrel spun up for some local 3-600yd F-TR matches. Brux 7 twist and used the Manson T15 fullbore chamber.
Took it out yesterday to start a load workup with the 85.5s and RL15.5

I was pretty happy with the initial results but wanted to do a sanity check on my load and velocities. Just stumbled on this thread and am happy to see I'm right there with you with this combo. Haven't tried any seating depth tuning yet I just seat the bullet out as far as I felt comfortable leaving enough bearing surface still in the neck.

Savage with Hawk Hill 28 inch 7 twist ISSF chamber .169 free bore
24.3g Varget Lapua brass Federal 205 primer
85.5 Berger loaded .025 and .040 off
Inside that depth window it Rocks! Nailed 3 prairie dogs off one mound at 661 in stiff wind
This bullet was easy as pie to dial in. I love it!!
Breaks 4 in clays at 600 with most anybody on the rifle

What's speed looking like? And are you mag feeding by chance or just single feeding?
