Berger 85.5 Hybrid

I am wanting to see if anyone has any experience using the 85.5 Berger hybrids for service rifle mid range? They will only be single fed and never mag fed, wanted to clear that up before everyone chimes in about how they will be so stuffed down in the case.

My experience with them in 20” SR was not great. Shot just OK, about moa in 1:7 Kreiger Wylde chamber H4895 and 8208 loads. I could get the 80.5’s to shoot enough tighter moving faster that it overcame the BC difference for midrange.

Agree with Aaron, you will need a longer freebore to make them work better than a 80.5. I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze. If they were the best option AMU would be using them, they are not.

Good 600 and in. After that it becomes a craps shoot… x x x x 9@1…. Was they me??? 9@1… crank down. X x. 10@7… 9@6… crank up x x 9@12…

I've heard a lot of people say similar. Which is a real bummer. 85.5g and the design make it a very seem very desirable.

I think a lot of ppl are just pushing them too hard. You can push the 80.5 to 3k. The 85.5 no. I have not fired any at a 2750 - 2850 node at 1k go see if the situation remains (no real advantage between 85.5 @ 2800 and 80.5 @ 3k and we know 80.5 works).

My buddy shoots this chamber with 85.5s at 1K with reasonable results. I don't know when Manson came up with the T15, JGS made this for me in 2018. Difference, mine is 10.

They probably stomp the beJesus out of them too.
That bullet loves to go fast.

Problem is Berger hasn't had any of the 75 VLD for sale for about a year now. Hope they get some soon.

I push them right at 3000 in my tube gun with H4895.

This screen shot is some leftover ammo from last season just seeing if I remember how to shoot the tube gun.

I run the 85.5 Berger @ 3000 from a 22 Nosler, 28" barrel.
About 2500fps @ 300 yards and about 2000fps @ 600yds.
Occasionally get a decent group, sometimes not
Fat fingered the charge weight in the pics. Actual was 32.46 not 32.426 grs.
Maybe I can edit the pic.

I push a 75 ELD to 3020 with 8208 XBR, 26" barrel. watching trace through the spotter is pretty cool. I can imagine a Berger being that much better. Playing with a ballistic calc a 80 or even 88gr does not do any better unless push significantly faster.
