Reloading room floor

So we had two old dogs, that pretty much destroyed my Finished basement floor, which is vinyl plank flooring. I have my reloading room in the basement. I also have a desk/work area. Entertainment center.

I would really like carpet in the basement. Any downsides to this idea? I’m worried about it throwing off my scale with static electricity. Any other down sides?

Edit: I’m talking functionally. I don’t mean to sound like a numb skull but I’m not worried about vacuuming up a primer or a little powder.

I have carpet in part of my basement. Will never do that again. I have concrete with the shop padded mats in the shop and reloading room. A friend detonated a primer with a shop vac. Said it was not fun.

Originally a spare BR was my office but I converted it over to my reloading area. Has hardwood flooring from when the house was built, and I just use a older large area rug that the wife had grown tired of. It's the close knap type so rogue primers just roll a bit and stop. I find them later with my barefeet.

My previous reloading room floor was cork ... provided a solid flat surface which was easy to clean up and added a slight bit of comfort.
For me, carpet stains too easily to have in a work room... I have it now in a temp room and it's slowly getting wrecked

I would think carpet is the worst choice as far as static. Especially wool. I would think something flat would be the easiest to clean and maintain. I wouldn't want 20 years of powder spills working into the carpet. Do you have to deal with dirty water spills from a tumbler? Oil and cleaning fluids on a carpet?

I like carpet - if it gets gross replace it. If it gets stained replace it. If you have moisture issues, have the concrete sealed or use a continuous foam, like memory foam, and nothing goes through it.

Having said that, carpets are so full of horrible crap, and such great places for animals to pee, that most homeowners wouldn’t get carpet if they had to be involved in pulling them up a few years down the line.

Carpet would be a HARD no for me. Vinyl, hardwood, or concrete would be my choices...concrete in my room...carpet in the rest of the basement.
