Reloading dies for a220 Swift necked up to 24 caliber

I am about to build a switch-barrel rifle in 220 Swift and 240 Cobra which is the Swift necked up. Would a Redding bushing die in 220 Swift work for both by just changing bushings? How would the best way to get an arbor type seating die for the 240 Cobra? I would think that I could have a Wilson 220 Swift seating die bored out to 6mm fairly easy, but are there options I am overlooking? Thanks. Tom ???

I would think that you could use a Redding type S neck sizing die with correct size bushing on your .240 Cobra cases. Or you can contact Neil Jones for any custom style die you want or advice on which way to go. But he will want 3 once fired cases if he were to build you any dies.

A very intriguing switch barrel combo you are working on. I love my Swifts and anything using a Swift case. Keep us posted.

The Redding die will work just fine with the proper bushings.
The best way to get a arbor type seating die is to use the same reamer that did the chamber on the rifle....
Boring out a die will also work, but the one done with the same chamber reamer will be the best one.

Thanks guys. I am looking at a CPA Stevens 44 1/2 action for the base rifle. I am debating whether to go with the 6mm based on the Swift case or the 30-40 Krag. Case capacity for the 6mm Krag is more but I don't think in practice I could tell the difference and keeping everything based on one case will keep costs down and I won't have to worry about changing extractors. I think I will stick with a standard neck as it will primarily be a hunting rifle but am still debating that as well since I have everything I need to turn necks. Getting my list ready for Santa early as I want to be able to hunt next spring with it! Take care. Tom

I was under the impression the 44 1/2 was designed, and worked better with, rimmed cartridges than with rimless or semi-rimmed?

I would be looking a bit closer at the .225 Win than the .220 Swift anyway, just from a barrel life standpoint. There is little a .220 Swift will do that a .225 can't. And the barrel life will be better by a good bit.

There is also the EABCO 97D to consider as well, with the line of BRM rounds developed from 30-30 brass. The .224BRM and 6BRM would do about the same thing as the rounds you have planned to use, and are designed to work from single shot rifles.
