Reloading Component Shortage Discussion

I find it a little ironic that there is a recent thread on this site about trying to get new shooters into the game, and then read this thread about all the components that need to be stock piled to overcome a hoarding binge in order to compete.

I am not casting stones. I am just voicing an opinion from a little bit different perspective.

I can't hoard or "stock up". My budget won't allow it. So I have to do what I can.

At this point, I have to consider the components I have, and seriously question shooting at all until "things" settle down. I was really hoping to compete this coming year, but I don't know if I will be able to afford to replace the components I use up.

I always have to wait till the end of Jan before I can do any ordering and I usually order enough for the year.. then start over again.

But this past year, I started ordering the amount of bullets that I believe will last the life of the barrel.. So when I order bullets this time around.. I will be ordering for three new barrels.. so that will be a order of 7000 bullets. I have the powder and primers already.. and the brass.

Very sad. Most of major venders were out of stock for Varget.

Just wondering, how long and when they will available again. I think those effect was due to panic.

I guess I don't understand the need for some folks to use the word "panic", when some of "US", and I certainy include myself into that "US", plan far enough ahead to not have to worry about there not being the components available.

Also as to the shortage of Varget. Folks this is not something new with Varget. There have been some sort of shortage of Varget almost every year. Knowing this how can any shooter of that powder not have planned for the next one?

I bought 2k of 205M and 210M yesterday at GunStop, which will cover me for 2013. No shortage there.

Keep yelling "SHORTAGE" on internet forums and you'll convince people to make one.

+1...I don't see the problem being with people buying what they need for the next year of competition and hunting (I go through at least 2K for varmint shooting each year besides competitions). I stopped by there myself and bought 2K of BR4's. My problem is with the people that will try and take advantage of this "shortage" by selling them at an inflated cost to those that didn't plan ahead. Buy what you need...if that is 20,000 primers, I envy you and wish there was time for that much shooting! ;D I expect to see a higher price on most components when my existing supply is dwindling. Hopefully supplies will be back where they are now when that happens.

I think it is a great idea to stock up when everything is plentiful.I bought 12 8# der's for future reference when there was no problem and the dist had plenty more to go around.I never wait till the last day to do anything.I have lots of primers and a vast supply of bullets for further competition .It is just smart being ready for slow times. After the lawmakers settle down,it will go back to somewhat normal I hope. Then stock up slowly to get what you need.

Purchasing more supplies than you need now and laying in a reserve of brass, primers and powder and bullets makes good sense if you have the funds available, Prices are only going to go up, better than parking that money in a bank earning 1% interest, those items will only increase in price and explain this to your wife, "It is bertter than money in the bank" I have noticed that primers and powder increase about 3-5% a year, bullets well who knows, seem to folow copper prices pretty closely.

It's just sad for some and good for others that's the only way you can look at it.Me I am a sad one for I have to buy ounce a year ( first of the year ) and my budget is always small. The family will always come first in my book then me.I can all so add that I'm not a match shooter but still like to have what I need when needed, but it's not always the case to having it all the time. :-[ So I just go with what I have and move on.I too have had to buy one pound cans at a time that causes me pain but live with it.Maybe one day I'll get rich who knows,I can wish can't I.
