Reloading Component Shortage Discussion

I bought 2k of 205M and 210M yesterday at GunStop, which will cover me for 2013. No shortage there.

Keep yelling "SHORTAGE" on internet forums and you'll convince people to make one.

Just walked out of the Scheels In St. Coud,
No Problem there, but don't kid yourself, people are hoarding,, again.
Gun sales at that Scheels and one other Mom-n-Pops shop here in town are sky high.

No shortage in Kingman AZ. bought 1 k wolf srp, plenty in stock at several shops in town.
But dont ask for a "P" mags none to be had.

Got a call from a friend who got a call from his friend who was at Scheel's in Bismarck this morning. They supposedly were selling CCI400's for $19.95 out of the back room. Were going to put them out front today @ $30ish?? I am gathering it was a nonadvertised price??? Told him I didn't need any but he was going to call him back as he told him to only buy him 1k. Since 94ish when the first primer episode came about I was down to 8K and swore I would never be caught that short again. If I live to be 100 and shoot 1K rds a year I won't run out!!! I have been hoarding since I started reloading in the mid 70's because there are few if any stocking retailers within 100 miles!

People will buy all kinds of stupid crap like video games, new cell phones only to be 'in style' and have the latest toys, including new vehicles, boats, campers, 4 wheelers, name brand clothes etc etc etc then bitch about the 'hoarders' because they only buy 200 primers at a shot, a 550pk of 22's(that is because the cheap ones don't come in 200 packs), a pd of powder or a box of bullets!!! If you want to shoot then 'be prepared', make a grilled cheese at home instead of spending $50 at Olive Garden or Outback! Then you won't have to have a hissy about 'the hoarders'!!!! Seems nobody has learned much about the politics, firearms and disaster/emergency preparadness the last 15yrs, wait until the last minute then bitch about no supply and inflated prices!!! I laugh at all the gents on forums that are stroking out over the rediculous mag prices and would surely buy 2(TWO) more if they could still get them for $15. Yea, why didn't you buy 10 or 20 when they were $15 instead of paying $50 each now???

Sorry for the rant but get tired of being called names because I am prepared, and I have been living on disability income and divorced because of it over 9yrs ago and live in the middle of nowhere where there are no Sales for reloading items etc. Go without something you absolutely don't need like those name brand clothes and be prepared whether it is for your hobby or for disasters etc! Just don't blame others!

Respectfully,
Dennis

Well said Dennis. For the last few years my shooting buddies have been laughing at me for the amount of reloading supplies I buy. Well guess who they always turn to when things get scarce. This time the repeat offenders will get no help from me. Tired of the guys who buy 500 bullets or a thousand primers, when they shoot 2 or 3000 rds a year.

John

P.S. I can vouch that Dennis does live in the "middle of nowhere" in fact it may be a bit beyond that.

Just got back from Scheels in Grand Forks. Plenty of primers and reloading stuff, however, many of the .223 cal bullets are scarce, and they are out of that new cfe 223 powder on the shelf anyways. Plenty of loaded ammo.

So people aren't going too crazy yet on reloading stuff here, but the DPMS cages are empty. They were overflowing on Tuesday!

I just stopped by to see what has happend since my last visit.

I think you can say one thing for certain... If people bought what they normally buy whether its 10,000, 1,000, or 100, we would not have a shortage.
I shot 1883 rounds this year and I have 1337 bullets, 1827 primers, and enough powder to load 2681 rounds. So I need bullets more than I need primers. My problem is my motorhome does not have a HUGE amount of storage, so I don't stock up as much as I would like.

I went to four sites and there is little to no brass or primers or used brass. Here we go again. It is so stupid.

jon: 50 & 55 gr. Hornady V-Max, a lot of the "zombie" Hornady bullets, 12 gauge 00 buckshot also on back order at a lot of places. Here we go again. :(

With the military being gutted, we'll have brass up the whazoo.......but don't expect the price to stay stable......I'm sure one of the administrations "fix" to the violence problem will be a healthy excise tax on all things gun related.....kinda like Pitman- Robertson......perhaps the Schumer/Pelosi Gun Owner Retaliation Act

Guy's, its Christmas most of the suppliers get a little low this time of year. They have to do there inventory for there tax's very soon and most let there stocks dwindle down some as well.

As to Brass and Primers, there is quite a bit available "NOW". After I read jombearmans post I went and looked around a little. I guess it is dependant on what Cartridge you are looking for. I recieved today 500 Lapua brass in 6.5x47L.

Now with that said, I did stock way up on powder and primers, and placed that order on the night of November 6th after I saw what was going on with the election results. I guess the question I have is why didn't most of us do that? The writing was on the wall all we needed to do was to read it.

Alot of folks are just plain panicking that they will ban everything. It just isnt necessary to run out and buy an ar-15 at super inflated price's because the bigger gun house's have standing order's ready to be shipped to them. You watch, the dealers tend to go with the trend and every dealer where I live over inflates whatever they can. It is sad period.

I think that Hombre0321 is right. I started looking for brass in standard hunting chamberings, 7 Mag and 270 Win, over a month ago. I had to look quite a few places to get the two at the same supplier. Even then I had to buy two different brands. Winchester brass seems to sell out first followed by Remington.
Properly controlling inventory to avoid the tax man on Jan 1 is good business practice.

I have never jumped on any ban wagon. Now......i do not comepete and go through power, bullets and primers as a lot of you do. I can understand when times get crazy people will buy more than they need to make sure they have plenty to continue their sport, matches and what activities they due and that will create a shortage for certain items that are used more often. But this crazy stuff i have seen lately with the semi type weapons and related items......well, it has just gone crazy. I know the saying if you have it and can buy it get it and get all you can. I have no problem with that as it is your money and and you spend it the way you see fit. But IF it ever came down to a society that went out of control and you had to bug out and do alot of moving around to survive, the room or basement full of guns, powder, primers, bullets, brass, reloading equiptment and what ever i left out is not going with you unless you plan on staying in the house as it is burning down or being over run. This is reality. I don't for see it happening at least in my life time in what i have left but you never know. But guys...... i rubbed the majic 8 ball this morning and it said everything is going to be fine when the smoke blows over ;D
