RELOADER 25 Powder

Not a lot of personal experences in SEARCH".

What success storys can you give?

I like the why it flows with it's smaller grains.

Gary

I have used Re25 in 7mm Rem. mag. and a match .243 with heavy bullets with great success. Burn rate similar to H1000. I feel it is an underrated powder. There had been rumors in the past about it being inconsistent but I haven't found that at all at any temperature where I've used it.

THANKS MIKE,(sorry R25 is Subject)

I have found this powder to be very good with 7mm Rem Mags when

making some extra long shots with VLD 617 B.C. plus bullets that seem to drop Bear and Elk when others are to far to shoot.

I took my 6'9' Bear with Grand Slams and H-870 /Fed215/ before R25 and came to expect heavy gum-fouled bores within 5 or 6 rds.,untill later found R25 to be clean and better for me.

I noticed mentioned some have used Lg.Rifle primers with R25,but considering the power charge necessory for 70gr..and up cases,is that advisable?

Gary

Are you talking about RL-25 or RL-22? I'm trying RL-25 in a 6.5-06. It's too early to say anything. There is not a lot of load data compaired to other powders.

Working with a 338 Lapua Mag and R25 on a long range Match load with Hornaday 250gr.BTHP BC 0.675 @2800 plus.
Will post results.....Gary

I shoot a 6.5-06 JME. its similar to an ackley improved. I just tried out RL17 today since there is no load data I just start low and work up untill I get pressure signs. Anyway here are the results of my initial testing.
RL-17 95gn V-Max
50gn - 2838fps
51gn - 3149fps
52gn - 3121fps Not sure what happened here
53gn - 3157fps should have been higher
54ng - 3267fps
55gn - 3258fps H4831sc gives me 3040fps
56gn - 3368fps H4831 gives me 3080fps

RL - 17 an 120gn A-Max
50gn - 2998fps
51gn - 3049 fps
52gn - 3127fps Cratered primer
53gn - 3141fps crater and primer started flattening
54gn - 3227fps crater and primer was flat MAX LOAD

I would like to test RL22 and RL25 as I am seeking a full case or compressed powder charge. The RL 17 only fills the case about 75%

I went with 68.5gr R25 for 168gr SMK in 7mm Mag. My velocity was ~2700fps, about 200-300fps below what I was estimating. I like R22 for 7mm Mag better.

I also had poor results in a 7mm Mag. Very slow velocity. Works great in my 338 Edge though. Gives me 50-60 fps more than H-1000 before pressure signs show up.

Yes RL-25 has had lots of problems since its release. I started using it right when it came out. I found lots that were are much as 250 fps difference with the same setup. Since i stopped using it and started again i have notice that it is much faster then it used to be. At first i really liked it then when i found the large swings i stop using it right away. Lately i have finally bought a few more pounds and tried it. I found out that its much faster then it used to be and switched to rl-22 to get some velocitys back. But if it works good there is no reason you shouldn't use it just be careful when switching to new lots. The other things i have noticed about it even compaired to rl-22 is that its dirty and very temp sensitive. I like to stick to h1000 or retumbo instead when im running the heavy bullets in a long barrel. Retumbo is something that you should try. It varys very little from lot to lot, has almost no temp sensitivity and has proven to be a vary versitle powder in most of my larger magnums and big bores.

I have had very little problems with most RL powder other then being dirty except 25. I just thought i should share my experience on this.

RL-25 was the best powder I could find for my 22/6mm Ackley shooting 80 grain Sierras well over 3500 FPS......

About 5-6 years back, I rebarreled my 22" factory 30-06 with a 26" Lilja in 30-06 Ack Imp. Exact same contour to 1) keep the same stock and 2) to keep the ultra light weight. The muzzle is .552"; pencil thin.

I focused on the 180 BT/AB. The most I could get out of my 22" Mag-na-ported barrel was 2750 fps and that was really pushing it with H4350. I got turned onto R25 by a guy over on accuratereloading.com who goes by the moniker "Ackley Improved User". He was quite well versed in the Ackley's and convinced me to try R25 and the 180 BT/AB. I got upto about 3200 fps with around 71-2 gr but settled on 68.5 for 3000 fps. The powder charge is compressed like a son of a gun but my ES/SD were great and my best group was 4-1/4" @ 818 yds.

I use it in 25/06AI, 7STW and I'm giving it a try in my 6.5/284. Excellent in the 25/06 and 7mm.

I tried RL-25 after you're recommendation for my 25/06-A.I., seems to be grouping great so far. Haven't chronographed it though.

A lot of the 1000 BR guys who shoot the 300 wby/ack/baer/ect... use it. It may or may not have problems. I avoid them by buying large volumes of the same lot. I baught 30 LBS last year....should take me through the end of 2010....I hope. Tryed it in two 7mm rem mags. (1 factory and one custom). I got embarisingly, silly high velocitys (which I will not post) with 168 and 180 JLK's with good accuracy. Used it in three 338 Lapuas.....two out of three liked it. The other liked H1000.

I love it!!!!!!

Just started using Re#25 in my 270 WSM. So far 70grs produced 3125 FPS with 140 gr bullet. Still room for heavier charges, produced nice round under MOA group.

:)I have been using RL25 since it,s been out as well as RL22 and RL19,I like them all. I am shooting a .270 WSM with a long Shilen S/S barrel. I found that 68 is maximum with the 140 Berger VLD or the 135 Sierra M.K. I load 67 grains with no problems and it is accurate out to 1000 yards.MV is about 3200fps. RL19 with a charge of 65 grains (max.) it will do 3300fps. and is very accurate also.
I also use RL25 in my 6X.284 with the 105 or 115 Berger VLD,s. With good results. Any of the Reloader series 19,22 or 25 work well no problems at all.Remember every rifle is different so work up from below.

I recently have tried Rl25 in my 6.5mmx284 Norma with outstanding accuracy and velocity also in my .270 Win. with the 140 and 150 gr. Berger VLD,s same results. I have found that Rl 25 and Retumbo are very close in burning rate in my rifles,Retumbo will be a little faster with the same charge. I use them both a lot. I use Rem.9 1/2 primer in the standard case but in my .270 WSM I use WLRM,F215 mag. primers.

Reloader 25 works excellent with long barrels. I use it in my .300 Atlas (Improved .300 WBY). I have three LRBR rifles chambered in the Atlas and REL25 is the only powder that has ever been used in them. I have not found REL25 to be Temperature sensitive in the least. But it sure is lot Number sensitive. My original 5 Lbs. was in 1 Lbs. cans of 3 different lot No. that I mixed together to make one. My next 5 Lbs. was a 5 Lbs. jug of a different Lot. It was a full 2.0 grains hotter. Only 77.5 grains would do the same velocity of the first lots 79.5. My last powder order was for 50 Lbs. in 5 Lbs. jugs of all the same lot No… Now I am back to 79.5 – 81.0 grains for 3,050 fps, depending on which rifle and the lot of Norma .300 WBY Brass.
As a side note: I use Federal 210M primers in all three rifles. A Wolf Large Rifle Magnum Primer WILL NOT set off 79.5 grains of REL25! I would have thought that with the Magnum’s hotter flame it would have worked well. I tried it first in my BAT Model L Heavy Gun, not luck. Hang Fires. Second I tried it in my Bat Model M Light Gun, Hang Fires. I thought that it might be the BAT Firing Pins. So I tried them with my Rem 700 Light gun. 4 out of 5 were Hang Fires. I have tried the Wolf LRM primers in .22-250, .308 Win and .35 Whelen all using either Hodgdon or IMR powders and they all go BOOM!
