reloader 15 vs reloader 16 ?

Ironically 26 lends itself better to small cases than 23.

I've tried 26 in larger magnum cases and never got the load density to get it to burn clean enough to not foul out in 20 rounds or so. However RL25 is GTG in this scenario... I have often said 25 is slower burning than 26 for this reason alone.

I mix R15 With R16 at a 90-20 ratio. Most days accuracy is ok- poor but with many fliers. Also mix the primers and brass brands. I call this the box of chocolates reloading method ! Ha, ha.

I use more RL26 than any other powder and it's my "go to" powder for everything from 7mm Blaser mag down to 224 Terminator AKA 22-243 Improved.

I'm currently using RL16 in my 20-250 for shooting the Berger 55's but I plan to give RL26 a try because it very well could produce better velocity.

In the past I wasn't all that much of a fan of the RL powders and mostly used Hodgdon, but 16,17, and 26 have made me a much bigger fan of Alliant powders.

R23 is the third TZ powder same as AR comp and R16. No one uses it. Its amazing.
I use a bunch of RL-23. My go-to for the .260 AI and the 140 class bullets. Also does an outstanding job in the .22-.250 AI, .243, .25-'06 and .243 AI. Not as much speed as RL-26 but it is not sensitive at all to ambient temperature and the precision has been hard to beat in my experience.

We tested it. It's essentially 4831 speed and super wide nodes.
I've been able to get significantly higher velocity with RL-23 than with H-4831SC. I can push a 140 grain out of my .260 AI at 3,050 fps without any fuss and bother. Doing the same with H-4831SC would sack my brass on the spot and give me a work out opening the bolt.

Well dont shoot that rifle too much! Your barrel is gonna burn out after about 200 rounds with a 150gr at that speed ;)
You got me thinking, got home and looked at my round count. It kind of surprised me. It's a Bartlein...dont know if that has to do with it or HBN or if RL23 has a lower heat of explosion or all of the above.

Maybe. But I think shooting methods are more important to prolonging barrel life than anything else. Dont get it too hot during firing strings, allow plenty of time to cool between strings, and they last a lot longer.

RL23 is good powder and I have it on hand for testing, but so far I seem to find better accuracy and speed with RL26 in the few rifles I've tried. Not to say RL23 cant produce excellent accuracy and speed, but it just hasnt worked the best in the limited amount of rifles I've used it in.
