Refinishing HS Precision stock

I am refinishing an HS Precision stock and looking to add some texture to grip areas. Any suggestions?

I am sure y'all have covered this before with someone else but I have a hard time searching via phone lol.

You need to decide if you want the "gripping" surface of the stock to stick "out" or "in". I've tried the method indicated by DarrenK above and it works fine if you want the gripping surface to extend outward from the stock.

The method I've come to prefer is "stippling" using a small circular ball type burr on a dremel tool. You can try it on the internal surface of the barrel channel to see if it makes clean edges, but basically you are making small indentations in the stock in as regular or irregular pattern as you want to form the gripping surface. I'd also recommend you put down a taped edge to form your pattern area, then stipple everything inside that egde. I haven't tried it on fiberglass so don't know how it would work. Works great on laminate wood stocks as a substitute for checkering , and I see it done some on synthetics like Glocks. Does not work as well on tupperware-type synthetic stocks - raises a burr that is difficult to remove and unsightly.

I've got 3 of their stocks...the finish is rough enough that i never felt a grip problem..personally I'd leave well enough alone..especially with a Dremil tool..that could end badly ..real quick

I couldn't find any marine tex or steel bed locally. Looking for more of an outward texture. I got the stock on a deal and it was banged up pretty hard to begin with so if I mess it up I am not really out anything.

The stock came off a dept. sniper rifle the had a lot chips and gashes as a result of being ejected from the trunk of a patrol car after an accident.

I had an H-S Precision stock that got beat up in shipping. I sent it back to H-S Precision and they repaired it to like new status. They even let me pick the stock color ;-)

I forget what it cost me but certainly not the price of a new stock.

My gunsmith used gel coat on both McMillan and HS Precision stocks that I had him paint. Adds nice texture. Some say it will fade over time but I haven't seen it.

if the stock is chipped up..sand..fill with bondo..sand....finish coat bondo..sand..prime ..sand and make sure the sanding marks are out and you have what you want..paint...you could mask off the grip and forend ..use bed liner for better grip in those areas

HS Precision will repaint stocks that they have manufactured including other branded OEM like Remington, etc. for $65. Best deal out there. I've had 5 done and one they replaced for free because they found a crack in the mag well that I missed. B&C will paint ANY stock but charge $115 last time I checked with them.
