redding micrometer bullet seater

my redding .243 winchester micrometer bullet seater varies seating the bullet by up to .005" in length.
when seater is adjusted -most lengths are the same but in 20 rounds, 5-7 will be mostly longer
are these normal tolerances?
could this variable length be caused by the berger and scenar bullets i use?

bearing surface inconsistancies shouldnt affect seating depth -- in bullet making the back may vary, but the front has to be the same so any extra length will go into the case.

My guess is you are measuring OAL with calipers on the round, instead of using a comparator? If so, the tip is the variable. If you ARE using a comparator, the die may be gooned up...
