Redding die?

Redding Type S Bushing 3-Die Neck Sizer Set 6mm BR (Bench Rest)
I would get the .266 bushing also.

This is the die that I think is correct to use if I order a 6mmBR for my Savage build.

That bushing size is good for a .270" neck chamber.

Might consider just the two die set; FL S Bushing die and Competition Seating die.
Cheaper yet, get John Whidden's FL Bushing die for sizing and the Redding Competition Seating die.

Either way is a winner.

+1 for the Redding FL type S bushing die and Comp seater. I shoot benchrest at Camillus, NY (league shooting only). From what most of the experienced shooters tell me they mostly all use a FL bushing die. Most use a custom made die, but for league shooting the Redding is not bad. The neck size of the bushing will depend on what your loaded round measures. For example a loaded round of .267 could use a bushing of .266 if you only wanted .001 of tension. If I were you I would get a couple of bushings (.266 and .265 for example) and see what gives the best accuracy. Some bullet power combinations like a lot of tension, some do not. This is what makes it all so much fun.

I forgot to mention that you need to set up the die so that it only bumps the shoulder back .001-.002, so you will not be working the brass that much.

I have the Redding setup all the way for my 6BR,and 30 BR (Redding will make custom built S dies for you) but I also use the Forster seating die on some other cartridges. My experience has been that the Redding competition seaters are easier to adjust and truer in actual movement of the bullet depth and easier to read. I was experimenting with a lot of different bullets in those two cartridges and this was a big help.

In the other cartridges I load it seems like the Forster was the better value.

I would buy a Harrels for a lot less money and a custom die made to fit your chamber just send fired cases..... jim

Skipping a few steps, in general, that's going to be about right.

Just to be clear for our OP, who is starting in the game, the tension doesn't depend on the chamber neck diameter. It depends on the brass.

Sized Brass with Bullet Seated - Sized Brass without Bullet = Neck Tension.

I should have been clear about all that when I recommended a 266 bushing to the OP. I.e., my recommendation assumes a .270 or larger chamber neck and the blue box Lapua brass.

The backstory is that the older, gold box, Lapua brass had neck thickness such that a no-turn neck chamber was .272. Brass was around .270, so .268 gave .002 neck tension.

The new, blue box, brass is thinner in the neck so as to be more in line with the published chamber specs for the 6 BR. It's going to come out about 268. Thus, the 266 bushing recommendation.

NOTE: All that is subject to you verifying actual measurement. Postulatin' takes a back seat to Measurin'

My one whine for the morning - It might have been a great thing, long term, for Lapua to get their 6 BR brass in line with some spec some where. It sure was inconvenient for those of us with 272 necked barrels and 272 reamers.

Fortunately, I have bought up enough gold box 6 BR brass to wear out a couple of barrels.

I use the redding competition 3 die set and i get .1 s and .2 s at 100 yrds all day . can't get much better in my opinion . I'm also useing the savage f class with a shilen barrel .
