I think you were leading in a some what constructive answer to the op question I enjoy trying to get to the root of the problem that most posters put on here but I am not good expressing on computer I have been fitting barrels for about 30 years plus these comparotors different vendors sell is fine but I make my own I thought you did a pretty good job on trying to help the op. PS everyone here has opinions that's why its called a forum we do our best to help.
Machinery's Handbook: by Erick Oberg and F. D. Jones. I have the eighteenth edition that was published in 1971, there is no mention of anything but 'gage', all 2293 pages including the index.. The first book has a Copyright of 1914
And then there is 'The Starrett DATA book for Machinist' Copyright 1920, and the Starrett Book for Student Machinist. Starrett used gage in all descriptions with a Copyright of 1941. I have no clue who decides what term, but for me I will take Starrett and the Machinery's handbook as the bible for gages.
With 1,760,000 total issues I wonder how anyone doing research could find any other spelling for a gage, I also have Starrett catalogs that go back .
I do have another book that is a more modern book on head space by John L. Hinnant. The Complete Illustrated Guide to the Precision Rifle Barrel Fitting: In one of his illustrations he drew 'go-gauge' and then signed the book "God Bless Texas"

Kevin, I was not refering to you when I posted my comment. Hell, I loved your response to Fguffey in post #78 and so far I'm the only one in this dog-fight who has hit the like button for that post. Your response is one of the most well meaning and thoughtful posts I have ever seen on this forum. No I'm not blowing smoke, I mean it. Fguffey is incomprhensible most of the time and I think he is a snob (as you appear to) who will never be able to communicate on this forum as well as you do. Kev, thanks for the kind words my friend. If you knew me, you would know that I would never try to make someone feel stupid when they are trying to learn something we are all very compassionate about. (Even the guffman!) At the same time, I am a really funny dude!
Hell, I call feeler gauges "guffy gauges". I say that to folks that don't even know who guffy is! He coined the term in my mind. He should feel flattered.
Perhaps he is not as good with communication as he is with the trade and sport. That's ok. However, when asked for clarification it is usually best to try to respond and in doing so, try to respond without belittling the inquirer. Sometimes it seems to come across as :
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance - baffle them with bullshit. I doubt he enjoys coming across that way. He does seem to be very intelligent.
The op asked a very good question. We don't always know the experience of the member asking the question. It is helpful, when looking for answers, to provide all the clues. Folks that are new to this are not always as aware of the clues that we are looking for. Be patient. As we ask the questions we give answers along the way. Sometimes it's not the answer, but the process that's educates those seeking knowledge that is most benificial.

Because he would rather manipulate words and look like he is mysterious, than exchange information, which he does not have.

After trying to keep up on all the "information" passed out on the many replies to your problem, I have a suggestion.
Try to find another shooter/reloader in your area that understands your problem and how to correct it.
Get him to spend about 20 minutes with you in your reloading room, and get him to show you the process of correcting your problem. This is one of those things that if you see it being done one time, you will better understand just how simple it is to get the fired case to be the length you want it, after being resized.
As a side note, you don't need the special shell holders to make this happen.
Where has he been lately, when u posted that I was thinking the same thing. Is he still around here?
