I use an aluminum surveyors tripod, my spotting scope is an old Bausch and Lomb 15 to 60X. It's quite large and heavy, I certainly don't need to worry about wind knocking it over. I'm a retired surveyor, never worked with junk, won't look thru anything that's shaky. It's adjustable for height, so I just set it close to y bench at the range. I use 10 X 40 binoculars for shooting critters. I used angle aluminum tapped and threaded to mount on the tripod, then a clamp type window mount to attach the scope. Check for used Surveyor Equipment on the internet, the "Carhart" brand(not related to the coats that shrink) or similar is the 'Cadilac' of tripods.
