Just get it clean. I just did one and it got back to shooting good. Worth it if you do your own work, maybe not so much if you pay someone. Plenty Smith's won't run their reamer in an old chamber.hi
Rechambering my 284 shehane to a straight 284 win. I have read that reaming a new chamber over a old one has some problems.
one being carbon ring? Planning on just cutting off the threads and going from there. The shehane died in a match and this will be a experiment.
thx Scott
Thx for the replyJust get it clean. I just did one and it got back to shooting good. Worth it if you do your own work, maybe not so much if you pay someone. Plenty Smith's won't run their reamer in an old chamber.
Not sure mine was straight 284. Maybe someone will chime in or do some measuring. With the Shehane chamber having a larger shoulder, will the mid-case diameter of the. 284 be bigger than the shoulder diameter of the Shehane?
The question is then how much to cut off to get the 284win into fresh material? Not sure mine was straight 284. Maybe someone will chime in or do some measuring.
Measured some brass today,If it's. 284 to .284, the threads should be enough. .284 Shehane to .284, maybe 2".
Curious...When I set my barrels up. I do it in such a manner with the specific intent that I will be setting them up again.
