rechambering question

hi
Rechambering my 284 shehane to a straight 284 win. I have read that reaming a new chamber over a old one has some problems.
one being carbon ring? Planning on just cutting off the threads and going from there. The shehane died in a match and this will be a experiment.
thx Scott

Just get it clean. I just did one and it got back to shooting good. Worth it if you do your own work, maybe not so much if you pay someone. Plenty Smith's won't run their reamer in an old chamber.

Thx for the reply
Doing my own work, thought I would give it a try,

With the Shehane chamber having a larger shoulder, will the mid-case diameter of the. 284 be bigger than the shoulder diameter of the Shehane?

I set back my own barrels on a regular basis. It is not a big job.
one thing to remember, if you leave any of the original chamber, the reamer will probably try follow that.

When I set my barrels up. I do it in such a manner with the specific intent that I will be setting them up again.

I would agree, following a perfect chamber creates no issues.. I've rechambered many that I had originally chambered.. If the original chamber had no runout a set back exhibits the same quality, or has for me..
Can't expect a good result following a bad chamber, cut it off and start over if that's the case.

Why not drill and bore the hole first. The reamer will follow the pilot and the bored hole.
