RCBS chargemaster and straw

Just got one the other day and will start using it soon. I have heard people using part of a plastic straw inside the tube or over the ouside not sure? Anyhow can someone explain excactly what they are doing and how. If you can take a picture of it and post it here that would be great also. Are their any does and don't i should be aware of using this. I read that you should unplug it after you are done using it and that everytime you start to use it that you should recalibrate with the weights. Thanks for any advice and i am really looking forward to using it and see how it does.

Use the large Mickey D's straw. Been using one for several years on my Chargemaster. It works well with stick or ball powders, and minimizes overages when dispensing powder.

If you do unplug it after easy use, you will need to plug in, turn on and let it warm up for at Least 30 minutes before you begin to use it. Not sure if the RCBS has a built in countdown timer for warm up or not.

two things you will only do once.. put in powder with the drain open and hit the zero button when in the auto mode.

one thing to do is wipe it down with a dryer sheet.

mine is on 24-7

Straw inside the tube helps. I also elevated the front feet by a few cm and that helps. I leave it plugged in and recalibrate everytime I reload a batch and always complete the batch on the same calibration. If you leave it on with a load in the pan you may see the weight wander by up to .02 grains. Hope that helps.

I had a ton of problems with consistency with my Chargemaster because I would turn it off after use. I would turn it on about an hour before use and it would be all over the place. I always thought an hour of warmup time was sufficient and the problem was due to a faulty unit.

It would go from 0 to .02 or -.02gr within a 1 minute time frame and just go back and forth, no consistency.

I tried to just leave it on nonstop, and it's dead steady now, and holds zero perfectly. I calibrate it before use and check with the 50g check weight every 10 or 15 loads but its almost never inaccurate.

So +1 for leaving it on all the time, unless the few cents of electricity each month is a problem for you.

Oh and yea, that powder drain has got me a few times.
