RCBS 10 10 Scale Accurizing

I have an Ohaus (not RCBS) 10-10. But I don't have the box.

When did the transition to Mexico manufacturing happen? I'm not asking date/year - but in terms of the RCBS takeover of the 10-10?

If a scale is an original Ohaus - by definition was that made in the US?

As best as I can tell, all Ohaus painted, marked and marketed scales are US made ones. I prefer the Ohaus ones and buy them when I can. My main user is an Ohaus 10•0•5.

I picked up this OHaus 10-05 awhile back for a project, I’m trying to decide on a stone to sharpen these knife edges.
I’m thinking a small square ceramic stone from Brownells or maybe Arkansas, I’m open to suggestions.

You keep that in superb condition. Thank you. I am often amazed at the number of scales of that vintage that I see on eBay that have suffered from what I consider to be beyond continued abuse over the years.

Thank you...… I'm cursed I've always had respect, appreciation, and pride for all the tools and equipment I've purchased since I was a teenager.

I'm very disappointed I can't find the #@%$ box, the search isn't over yet!

I have numerous Spyderco ceramic stones, but I'm guessing the finish would clog them quickly and hamper the uniformity of the cut.

- Maybe a piece of thick glass or other very flat surface with a fine wet/dry sandpaper.
- Or wet knife sharpening diamond hone blocks?

I use those EZ LAP hones all the time, they are priceless IMO.

For sure baby steps like tuning sear engagement.

I can't think of the name of the stones but I would rather use a oil Stone that breaks down to material that you're working on.

You will not be removing much metal at all. I have done the ones that I did with a cheap diamond lap that started out life as coarse, but has seen such hard duty on various projects that if I were replacing it for scale use, I would choose fine. I do not really put any pressure on it, and I take care to do the same number of strokes on both sides of both edges. Do a little and test. Do a little more and test again. Use magnification to inspect your work as you go. If the scale does not repeat to zero, do a little more and retest. If it stops performing as it did, if it is clean, give it a very light touch up. Do NOT get in a hurry. If you are feeling impatient put it away.
Diamond cuts very fast so take care.
