Raton2018 picture thread; Added 15 pictures that I missed. See my post on page 4

Just as an example, I did some quick post-processing (pp) on dsc_2558 and added it to the LR album as dsc_2558_1. You can see the difference between it and the non-PP image right next to it.

35 pictures today. The stress is telling and some people started acting silly.

BTW, my new title is King Of Crossfires. Reason for my claim? 2 crossfires in match 1 today. Count them, 2. Sigh.

Turn it around tomorrow Denys. I have faith that you will!
Thanks for the pictures man, you make this special as usual...

Records are made to be broken, I’m letting you keep that one! Lol
I crossfired during team once so I feel your pain!

Thanks, it's not a record that I treasure, I can assure you. I did better in the subsequent matches. It was a lot of fun, if you enjoy frustration and getting schooled by mother nature.

Today is team matches. Should be interesting.

Added 110 pictures today of the team matches. It was a great day with lots of vertical issues.

It was also my first foray at coaching an F-Open team. No, I'm not going over to the dark side, I'm F-TR through and through. This was fun and watching those flat trajectories was an eye opener.

I arrived somewhat late at the awards ceremony. I have a few of the final day of competition; stiff wind and lots of vertical.

I took some landscapes on the way out of the NRAWC.

It will be several days before I cn do any meaningful PP on the crowd favorite pictures. If you want to make sure the ones you like are included in that effort, use the wow button for those pictures.

Congratulations to all the winners and to the staff of the Bald Eagle Rifle Club on a job well done.

I hope you enjoyed this day by day photolog. See you next year.

King Of Crossfires
Thanks for the pictures Denys!

If you're the King I guess I can claim the honor of court Jester. I was fighting a new rifle all week and managed to crossfire twice also. And, as it always seems, both were 10's. A 20 point hicky doesn't help at all against competition like this.

On a side note, Denys was kind enough to give me a copy of the information used for the wind reading class held at Bayou this year. I've had a chance to thumb through it a little, lots of good info. He ask me to let him know if there was anything that could be added. So yeah, there is one chapter you left out. A short one but important. "How to prevent crossfires". Grab your ears and pull......

Denys,

Thank you so much (again) for all the great pictures!

May I ask a favor - - Could you post all the links to the albums?

I believe there were two; one at the beginning of this thread, and another one a few days later, but I am not sure, and I would hate to miss any of the pictures!

Thanks!!!

Alex

Nice Photos Denys! Thanks for sharing... :)

Just FYI, there have been 42,000 views for these pictures.

2203 is the most viewed pictures. It will get cleaned up and reposted in due time.

Denys,

I appreciate the time and effort you have taken to allow us poor souls who couldn't make it to this match get to see friends and fellow competitors at nationals. I hope everyone makes it home safely.

So will the rest of us get spotted a few points over the new reigning national MR champion at Bayou for state championship in October? It is awesome to see the pics of Randy holding the gold.

Hey Dean, it was great to see you in Raton.

I still can't believe I crossfired twice. Shots 5 and 15. I haven't a clue about shot #5, but #15 I called as a crossfire first. When I placed the crosshairs back on the target I noticed two things. One, it had not gone down. Two, it was not sight picture of the shot I had just taken; while it was the same score the shot marker was at a different location. I'm sure my inner groan was heard 3 lanes over. I am plagued by crossfires these days. I had one on the first match at TSRA LR in the spring.

I almost made another one at Raton. I was about to press the trigger when the target went down on me. I was lined up on the wrong target and I was saved by the idiot who fired on their own target a split second before me.

At the MR championships, on the very first match, my first shot on paper at Raton 2018 was an X, sighter one. I should have gone home with my head up high. But I persisted. My rifle has some issues where the firing pin was not getting held back by the sear when I was closing the bolt. This occurred several times during the first match. I had to open and close the bolt a few times before it took hold. On one shot I opened and closed seven times I was getting more and more forceful every time. On the seventh time, the rifle fired after the closed it quite hard. I think my left hand was holding the rifle wrapped around the triggerguard. I called it a misfire and my scorer said "what do I do now?" I responded, "the rifle fired, the round went down, you have to record the score, whatever it is."

It came up a 10, on my target.

Sometimes even doofusses like me catch a break; I try to make sure my rifle is aimed on target, in the black where I want it to be before I close the bolt.

ETA: The rifle has functioned flawlessly after that shot, all through MR and LR. My theory is that my rifle was getting tired of my antics and showed me how good it is on its own.

The booklet I gave to Dean is the printed version of the handout that we gave out to the attendees at the last training day. It was written by several members of Team Bayou and it covers every aspect of a match; it is designed to cover everything to do with F-class competition, except for handloading. So it covers the rules, the equipment, how to pull targets, how to do scoring duties and also how to run through a match as a shooter; what you do, what is expected of you and so on. It has a list of equipment from several shooters and it also has a section on wind reading; how it works, what to look for, how to try to compensate for conditions and so on.

I've asked Dean to give me some feedback on it as someone who is extremely well versed in all aspects of F-class but has never seen he booklet before.

I have it all in a massive PDF file and we are considering putting it at the Bayou website soon, so others can download it and use it for training new competitors.
