Raton2018 picture thread; Added 15 pictures that I missed. See my post on page 4

I arrived in Raton earlier today and I went to the range to get my rifle weighed. I took the opportunity to take some pictures and then I drove up to the pits to take some more pictures.

I have started an album at my Nikon Image Space account and I will try to load pictures there every day. I will post a note after every update. The pictures are all medium JPEGs. I have RAWs for all the pictures. If you see one or more that may interest you, you're welcome to download it from the site, if you require very high resolution, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I am not taking the time to do any post processing on these images, just collecting and posting.

This is the link to view the album Raton2018:

Added about 32 pictures on Sunday. Long day; sun is pounding, winds were pretty nice.

Thanks for sharing the photos Denys!

Thanks for the pics. Having not been there before, where does one go to get rifle weighed?

Today was all shot at 600 yards. The first match was in extremely nice conditions. But that didn't last. Match #2 got some wind changes and match #3 was a whole lot more fun; very fast wind pick ups and let offs. Pay attention to the flags and the dust at the impact berm.

It gets very difficult to take pictures after match #2; I'm tired and all I can think of is finishing strong and getting back to the hotel to soak my head.

You will see a few pictures from inside the bus driven by Speedy Bill. I tried to catch the pronghorns sitting at the 200 yard line, but the AF caught the window until I coaxed it to get the sheep.

You will also note the artistic rendering of the repair centers pasted on a specific target in the last picture of the day. I promised that I would not embarrass anyone so I'm not saying which target was so decorated, and by whom.

Note, some of the pictures are on the dark side, but as I explained earlier, they will come out much better after some judicious PP. My camera has ample HDR and I have the RAW files.

Tomorrow is the last day for individuals at Mid Range.

On a personal note, my rfile was recalcitrant yesterday but after some TLC with tools and stuff last night, it performed really well today. It was hammering. All the errors were mine, but I did like that string of 6 consecutives Xs in match 1.

You just walk into the big building at the Bald Eagle's nest and they'll take care of you. The match is very well run. I can't even find a nit to pick. But I'll keep looking.

Make sure you bring your rifle with the ECI inserted and all the accoutrements that will be on the rifle on the line.

Note; they have a hacksaw available for your barrel if your rifle is too heavy. I think they even have a reamer to fix the muzzle.

Thanks you for your efforts and photography skills, Denys! Those of us unable to attend are especially appreciative that you have taken the time to do this.
I appreciate that. I'm trying to provide an up-to-date photo record of each day. The thing of it is that once we start, the picture will be from my immediate vantage point. There is simply no time for me to walk around the line to take pictures of everything. It's just in my immediate surroundings.

It's a great match, extremely well run and I try to convey what's around me.

Just FYI, There have been over 5000 views of these pictures at the Nikon site. This is very gratifying, it tells me people are viewing the pictures. If you like a specific shot, you can click the WOW button for that shot and it tells me what kinds of pictures are more noteworthy so I know what interests you. This way I can take more of those types of pictures.

Picture dsc_2186 is by a fair measure the most popular picture in the set. I kind of agree; it's a powerful picture even though I didn't see it that way when I took it. It just came out that way; lucky, I guess.

Must be trying to preserve the center? If your in the white you are having a bad day anyway.

I have added 129 pictures today, the final day of FCNC 2018 Individuals MR. Congratulations to my good friend and Team Bayou @ Connaught member Randy Littleton, the 2018 MR F-TR National Champion. Also congratulations to my good friend and fellow Texas John Myers, the 2018 MR F-Open National Champion.

If you know these two Texas gentlemen, you will be struck by their non-assuming, humble yet confident, attitude.

Next time you see Randy, just yell "Vee" at him and see how he responds. There's a story behind that.

I will continue this photolog through the Long Range portion of the Nationals.

Thank you to all those who view my pictures and click on the Wow button; that helps me understand the types of pictures you want from these events.

BTW, 2186 and 2254 are the clear favorites from you folks. I must say that the more I look at 2186, the more I like it and agree with you.

There have been over 8500 views so far.

Congratulations Randy Littleton and John Myers..!! :)

Repeat from the OP:
I started a new album for the 2018 Long Range FCNC: http://img.gg/y7Fp9NM

I added 17 pictures from day 1 of Long Range. I elected to leave my Nikon camera (without Kodachrome film for the old geezers amongst us) in my Outback instead of taking it up to the pits. I'm glad I did.

BTW, as of this afternoon, before the new album, there have been just a little over 20,000 views and 151 wows. I think people are enjoying the pictures.

As a reminder, I have done zero PP on the pictures, I am loading them directly from the camera to the laptop to the Nikon site. When I get a chance (meaning after the FCNC concludes) I will go through a selectively PP some pictures and put them in a separate album or something.

The crowd favorite in terms of numbers of views remains DSC_2186 at over 200 views. I have already expressed my feelings about that picture. I am actually contemplating submitting it at a photogs website of which I am a member and discussing it there. You will notice the large focus area from the tufts of vegetation at the bottom of the picture, all the way to the top of the mountain in the background and the cloud far in the distance. I like the lone 1000 sign standing forlornly amongst the pebbles and rocks and way in the background the busses on one side and the faint hints of the firing line on the left.

The next one is 2203, followed by 2183, for some reason. I think it's a great ad for Subaru. :-)
People also wowed 2268, 3354 and 2391. I can certainly understand the attraction of the first one. The ersatz Picasso of the second one is noteworthy.
