Rant mode on

Back in the old days of Gunsmoke, Wyatt Earp and Wanted Dead or Alive even the bad guys would keep their word!
According to the old movies, they even threatened each others life somewhat respectfully
("Stagecoach" comes to mind)
Kris Kristofferson says to a carpet bagger
"you might wanna mind your own business"
---Why?
"Because it's not as dangerous as the way you're living now"
So much cooler and respectful than "F you MF'er"

I always prefer electronic payment myself. Simple and ill ship the next day. I've mailed checks and it's a guessing game when it will arrive. I avoid money orders, they aren't worth the extra hassle. Always give feedback on your purchases and usually guys will return the favor.

Regarding PayPal and Venmo,

1. They are absolutely 100% forbidden and prohibited for sales of firearms, actions, ammunition, powder, and primers. And fyi the software may equate "bullets" with ammo, so that can be a problem.

2. PayPal and Venmo Goods and Services with FEES, can be used for most other products.

3. PayPal and Venmo Friends and Family (F&F) are both absolutely forbidden to use for ANY sales of ANY product of any kind.

That is stated in PayPal Rules, Venmo Rules, and Forum Rules.
If I determined that the seller deliberately and knowingly uses F&F their Forum account is subject to immediate and permanent termination.

I sell stuff on a lot of forums. I accept paypal if I have sold to you before. I also accept straight up cash, but at their risk if lost. But normal is a usps MO. A lot of people do send cash. I will not accept a check.

Im curious as to why the aversion to checks? I won’t pay with a postal money order, so I don’t ask anyone to pay me with them. I’ve paid with and accepted a lot of checks over the years with zero issues. Unless it’s a purchase of several hundred or more, I don’t even wait for it to clear when it comes from an established member with a good number of positive feedbacks.

I’m not knocking the way you do it, because it obviously works for you. I’m just curious to understand.

It took USPS 6 weeks to deliver my CCW renual from Frankfort to my Sheriff 75 miles away.

I have shipped items prior to receiving payment on smaller items. I don’t think someone wants to ruin their reputation on A.S. for $100 .

Bought a small item, sent cash in regular mail. Seller sent the item before payment arrived.

I get the item all is good except a week or two goes by and seller wants his payment. Now we both are wondering about the other. Both wondering did he send it, or did he get it.

Resent a payment of a postal money order and priority mail. Signature required . It’s there in a couple days.

Another week or two goes by and the seller calls to tell me the original payment made just showed up.

Live in a smaller town with no local mail sorting. Send out bills at the end of the month. One of those bills actually goes the the post office box right next to mine. Since there is no local sorting, my bill, and his payment both travel about 500 miles each total 1000 miles to swap checks. Wasn’t a big deal before the Post Office revolutionized the way they did things to save time and money.
Used to be. Put the payment or bill in the local mail slot and it’s delivered the same day by walking across the building. Now it’s more cost effective put it on 3 different trucks each way, handled by an unknown amount of postal workers, and deliver it in 8-10 working days. Not to mention they lose it completely about once a year.

A lot more hand delivery between people going on in tiny town these days.

Friends and family transactions are not covered by purchase protection and there is no method to settle disputes. You have zero legal recourse, you can try, but only the lawyer will profit. While we are at it, don't use your debit card for large purchases either, for the same reasons, you have none of the protections offered to you with a credit card.

pay pal used my checking account to pay a vender, and i had my CC as the preferred payment method. bank charged me $35 for lack of funds, i dont keep any money in the account linked to pay pal. got my money back from the bank ok, just thought it was a mistake. then they did it again, even had the lady at the bank check my account settings, so i deleted my checking account from pay pal in a fit of rage. well that backfired, now if someone sends me money i cant get it out of pay pal into my bank. cant figure out how to add a new bank account. so I have to FF it to my son, then he pays me. I used to use PP for everything, but now as much as i can i just use the cc. venmo just scares me. PO is hit and miss, took a month for a box from denver to Indianapolis, priority mail, but 3 days for one from denver to south Carolina. go figure.

I’ve had payments take more than two weeks to get to people. I now use Priority envelopes for all payments and some still take ten days. At least I have a tracking record to prove I’m not a lazy deadbeat sending payment when “I get around to it.” I feel it’s my obligation to get payment made as fast as I can.

I have bought and sold on forums for 20 years. I have never had a bad experience, but the number of scammers is crazy. I have shipped guns in the past, but I never will again due to all the scammers. As for payment personal check usually. Ill accept zelle as payment, but I won't send my money electronically. I don't do MO anymore either. Sometimes the PO doesn't have enough cash on hand and of course, scammers won't hesitate to send you a fake one.

I pay a lot of bills by check using regular usps first class mail every month. I use a label printer on my computer to print mailing labels. The addresses are scanned by optical readers and they need to be clearly legible. The chicken scratch some people use to address envelopes is crazy. Also crazy spending for registered mail. It only slows it down. For items less than $100 I send cash.

Add the "black hole of Palatine Illinois" to that list. I always get a sinking feeling when tracking shipments through there. Usually sits there for days or even weeks, and sometimes vanishes even then.
That's so funny. I live in No. IL. also.
If it goes through Chicago area, you are lucky if it doesn't add a day or two.
USPS sucks everywhere now.
Just say won't ship till money clears, usually nobody complains.
I don't care how it comes or what payment. It all spends the same.

My debit card has the same protection as my credit card through my Credit union. Your mileage may vary!
