Range results

I always like to see groups posted, so here is one of my recent efforts at the range. Most the info is on the target except the twist, which is 13.5, and bullets are seated to the lands.

Great shooting, it looks like your rifle likes that sierra bullet,But i think its possible you may be at that bullets accuracy limit.Try this and get back to me. Try 29-30.5 grs RL10 with a cci 450 primer. everyone i have convinced to try it has been very happy with it and so far its been slighty better accuracy than N135 and the ES and SD has been way better than N135.I need to get some one else to try it.My friend has been shooting the N135 and i got him to try the RL10 and it has been slighty better than N135 for him to.And the velocity has been about the same but the RL10/cci 450- the ES has been way better, and the load has been more conistant over conditions.

Love the targets, great proof,Hate to say it but typical 6BR.
Want to tighten it up? Try the RL10 with a cci450
Try a custom bullet,i like the fowler 66gr er never seen a good shooting 6BR yet that would not shoot that bullet. But i think any of the custom 66gr bullets shoot great.
Love to see you try my load and post resualts,so far 3 differant rifles have shot it great.but hay you cant dought that N135 shoots,i have shot 2lbs of it.

Keep up the good work! Great shooting!
I need to get someone to try this load so everyone knows im not crazy, looks like you can shoot so i pick you to try it and post your resualts.

Thanks for the load advice. I don't have any RL10, so won't be trying it any time too soon. H322 didn't work well at all in this barrel, and since RL10 is very close in burn rate, I'm not sure it would be any better. You never know but I'm not willing to bet $25 bucks worth of powder on it right now. Maybe if I can find a guy at the range to do some powder swapping, I will do it sooner. I'm willing to try just about anything.

I will be trying other custom bullets though. I tried the Berger 68s and they didn't come close to the Sierras. Fowler are a good suggestion. Anyone else with a recommendation on brand let me know.

I have to disagree about the flyers.....other than those first two groups, I see one or two bullets hanging outside the main group. ;) I get rid of them and I'm in business. Honestly I don't know if they are fliers are not. I can't really read the wind yet. About all I can do is watch the flags and shoot in what I think are the same conditions as the previous shots.

Otter i know it seems like a long shot but its worth the 28.00 bucks for a can of RL 10 its the best powder for the light bullets, you know N135 works well but you will find the RL10 tighter groups and more consistant, my friend with a new barrel shot a .247 with a 65 v-max and RL10, i have shot many groups in low 1's and very low 2's with the RL10.

a bit off topic but where did you get your log book? Its very organized and I like the abiltliy of have multiple groups and there load data on one page in a binder. I'm sure others would like to know as well.

I was wondering if anyone would comment about the targets and log book. The groups are okay, but the log book is actually more impressive.

I make the targets and the log information myself using an old desktop publishing program called PageMaker. Microsoft makes a similar program called Publisher, however if you are pretty good with a work processor you can make them on that using text boxes and the graphics features.

To better organize the targets I bought some tabs at Staples. Real simple to do.

I keep all my results in a 15MB Excel spreadsheet and scan targets into On Target for scoring. No paper. I create my targets with a 2D CAD program and print to PDF. The earliest target I created, now some 20 years ago, was written in Postscript. I was forced to learn the language to solve some printing issues with AutoCAD and Ventura Publisher and leveraged that to create the target. The Postscript file is only 17 kb. Amazing how efficient hand coding can be.

I used to record it all on an Excel spreadsheet but the notebook was more enjoyable. I still have my load data in the Excel spreadsheet and store a copy off site, but I don't record the group size any more.

I scan a lot of my targets too, and if I want a second opinion on group size I run the scans through my On Target software. At some point I will have to get rid of some of my binders and PDF scan files will replace them along with an Excel spreadsheet.
