Range Flags
I have had this idea at San Gabriel for a couple years now. Saw some at the 2002 Midland Nats. The idea is to make Range Flags as an addition to the flags shooters already set. Since we have a 100 yd range I was thinking 3 on each side. The poles would be aluminum that could extend to say 8' to clear the berms. My flag maker could help us with the poles. We will use 3# coffee cans with a long bolt through the bottom with a aluminum tube set in cement. The cans would be buried in the ground so the flag poles could be slipped on/off.
For the flag I want long steamers no blade to start with. The streamers themselves would act as the directional indicators. Done this before on my stands. Probably go with red, white, and blue to match our bench faces. Maybe by the end of the year. A lot depends on our situation at San Gabriel.
A little off the subject another project for San Gabriel. In the
Winter months if we can get the use permit I want to buy a couple of smoke bombs probably red and blue and set them off at say 50 yds and give our shooters a treat watching wind push the smoke around. I am a believer that goes on on your bench might not be what goes on on either side of you. Each bench can have it's own wind dynamics. We tried to do this at the 2004 San Gabriel BR School but couldn't get the permit.
Try not to look like a Renaissance Faire but anything that will help the shooters is good for me. You are only limited by the ideas in your head and the friends you keep. Shrek.
