Question: Why so many looking for

Saving on powder 20+ grs does any thing I need to do w/great accuracy this is a wonderful cartridge that why I have several 223.

No "dream armory" can be considered complete without a .223. Cheap to operate, accurate, huge component selection and ammo list. For many - it is the gun that can do everything except big game when underpowered or not allowed.

I think one big factor is all the 223 family of cartridges. From 17 to 30 caliber 223 and fireball based cases. Big number of options and it seems the 308 bolt face rifles are a bit easier to come by.

Easy to shoot, easy to reload, economical to reload - It's one of my favorites and a great predator / varmint cartridge.

I have a Tikka T3 Lite in 223 and it is a sweet shooting outfit. Mine came with a 1 in 8 twist but seems to shoot any weight I try OK. I am now shooting 50 grain Nosler BT and get approximately 1" group at 300 yards. Before I got this rifle I went through both 223 Rem ADL and Savage 200 and neither one quite measured up but the Tikka is a keeper. An accurate 223 is a pleasure to shoot.

As mentioned...the 223 is a very useful round...along with components usually very available...excellent reloading die selection...mild mannered performance...what's not to like....my current carry/truck 223 is a Salvage camo predator...22" med heavy barrel..topped with a Nikon 5-20 with towers...my other 223 is a heavy 17# table gun in an 'Ack Imp' chamber...28" 9 twist tube...Salvage s/shot....Vortex PST for glass...a great LR p/dog slayer....

I have thousands of rounds to keep the AR fed and would like a companion bolt gun or maybe a single shot. Tom

CZ makes a wonderful bolt in 223 that will also shoot the 5.56, something many 223's won't.

From the Fireball to the Deuce and the .223 and ALL the neck down/ Neck up and Improved versions of these parent cases there is ALOT that you can do with a .378 bolt face.....

I agree with everything said so far. Cheap, plentiful components. A nice variety of different calibers to work with. I myself run a 20 Practical bolt gun, a regular .223 bolt gun and a 6X45 AR-15. I use the 20 Practical and the .223 for hunting crows, groundhogs, prairie dogs, fox, bobcat, and coyote. I use the the 6X45 for coyote, deer and hogs. I've been considering trying out a 17-223 as well. 8)

I bought a Savage Axis .223 last year to try out. It is a good little plinker for the cost. I run 68gr. Hornaday bthp in the 1-9 twist barrel.

Performance for the dollar spent.

The 6mm and up calibers can give impressive performance but they cost a lot more when the small rounds will do the job. For varmints, the small stuff meets most needs. I have used a fast twist bolt .223 for years as a precision rifle trainer.....low recoil, quick barrel cooling, easy loading. It works on whitetails, too.

The TCU series and Whisper also use this small bolt face making it very versatile...great for custom builds and switch-barrel set-ups. All of this results in the demand for small face bolt.

Excellent turtle cartridge...but I've never been a friend of it! Sorriest Service Rifle cartridge that ever came down the pike!
