Question on ear protection/hearing attenuator for hunting

CaptainMal said:
I have three Model 70's with BOSS. Love them all. This season I took two shots and killed two deer with the 270 one. Never heard a thing.

I always use ear protection while shooting. Never while hunting. Seem to get so excited I don't hear anything while shooting at game. Also, it's very few shots - 5 this year with different rifles. Now that would not be so varmint hunting where I wear a pair of those LeeSonic ear valves that fit inside the ears and don't bother my face on the stock.

Good luck with your decision. Those "game ear" things all seem to get in the way when you shoot.

You may think you are doing a good thing w/the Lee Sonics. I have been
down that road and can credit a lot of my hearing loss to that very product.
No loud sounds w/the Lees, but apparently enough to cause damage over
the long haul. My last and the most severe/measurable loss came w/9 shots
fired in a duck blind. My advice, throw the LEE SONICS in the trash. I wish
I had yrs ago. LDS

Larry...Coached a high school shooting team for two decades. Always wore Lee Sonics. They are an older product.

Well, it's not what you expect. I DO have a profound hearing loss. Always figured my hearing loss was from all the other shooting, especially big bore handguns, I did over the decades often with little to no hearing protection.

No way to tell. 70 now. Too old to know if it's shooting, age-related or what. Lee Sonic plugs were the only thing I found I could wear for long periods of time. We didn't have those electronic things back then.

Will say this, I like my electronic muffs today. Just not reasonable to have that kind of bulk on while hunting.
