Ear protection for muzzle brakes while hunting

I have a custom set of electronic plugs from an audiologist also. He was an active pistol shooter at the gun club.
They are hard plastic, and actually quite comfortable. They work well for hunting, but wind does create noise. And as mentioned above, I do lose a bit of sound location. But its not too bad.

I wear hearing aids (in ear canal) in both ears.
As OmegaRed mentioned, an audiologist could program different sound profiles in shooting plugs.
I use the sponge type ear plugs when practicing at the range because it replicates my hearing aids. My audiologist programmed both hearing aids, to “cut out” loud obnoxious sounds yet sensitive enough to hear sounds in the woods, crickets chirping, and whispers between my guide or PH. They worked very well for me.

I forgot to mention, all my hunting and varmint rifles have muzzle brakes or are ported. I have to “remind” my guide and PH about the muzzle brakes.

Too much money to be made to make them available. Both for aee t fff and manufactures.
Exactly. If you ever want to understand why nonsense exists, ask yourself whose getting money from it and you’ll have your answer.

Ear detects sound from:

Skull

ear lobes

Auditory canal

Cover your ears with some kind of electronic muff. Learned this from shooting tens of thousands of rounds on p. dog towns.

When hunting, I use the Peltor Tac 6. I learned to really enjoy the amplified hearing. I heard more deer grunting and snort wheezing than I ever thought possible. My deer grunt and rattle bag were always with me.

A huge benefit was learned in wearing the amplified electronic ear muffs when blowing a coyote howler, you can hear them howling from a lot further off than with your naked ears. Now throw in a good map, mark your best guess on a location of the various howling coyotes, and you now have 5x better chance in calling in a coyote as you get closer to the coyotes.

PRR1957, That is along the same lines as the levang comp. I have a few in .223 and yes it helps but you still need something over your ears, they were a very good product that was bought out by bushmaster/remington and then shelved. Kaw valley has something close to that now.
