Question on buying from member with no history

So if a member has no trade history posts or threads what should a person do?
RUN!!!!!!!!!LOL- what little trader feedback I have I have gotten most recently I generally do not buy and sell items when I buy it is for keeps but that does not mean I am a scammer at all I understand everybody starts with nothing but you should build slowly selling small items with low dollar amounts and earn some feedback and work your way up

You don't say what you're buying, but if you can, pay with PayPal, charged to your credit card. That gives you a lot of protection. Should you get stiffed you can go to PP for protection, and/or dispute the charge with your CC company. Of course, if you're buying a firearm then you can't use PayPal, and I know lots of people won't use PP on general principle. I'm sympathetic to that view, but I know of no other way to really protect yourself from seller fraud, and I'm not willing to cut my nose off to spite my face. A few years ago I bought a Mitatoyo (sp?) digital caliper for a ridiculously low price and paid for it with PP (I shoulda known it was too good to be true). When I didn't receive the caliper after a few weeks (can't remember how ling I waited) I filed a claim with PP & got my money back.

Yeah, how much money are we talking about here? The more, the more careful I would be.

But yes, I have often wondered why it is the guy with the money who has to take all the risk.

I would not trust "texting" as far as I could spit. If it is several C dollars or more I want to talk to them. There have been a few times where something they said clued me to the fact that they were prolly a scammer. I did not tell them what it was, so they would hopefully keep doing it.

I've always spoken to the guy on the phone and so far, have never had a problem. I even traded guns once with a guy several states away on one of the Ruger forums. We both did what we said and everybody was happy.
Gun owners usually tend to be real tight a$$es, but most value their honor quite a bit.:)

Get his address and phone number.
Search Google Earth and see if it's a mail box in front of an empty trailer lot.
How much money is involved?
The BOSS has posted good guidelines to follow.
My own rules are if he (or she) is not a contributing site member I'm OUT......not fair and I'm sure I've missed some good deals, and yes everyone has to start somewhere but not at my expense.

Everyone was new at one point. Some deals happen and feedback isn't left too, which doesn't help. I know I've done way more deals than my feedback shows on every forum I'm on.

I look to see if they are active and provide valuable content to the forum... and not just in the marketplace section.

I ask if they are "known" on other forums too and then do some research.

I've had people ask me for a phone call when I've been new to a forum. I don't have a problem talking to people... you can tell a lot from a phone call.

Sad but true, happened to me with a Gold member seller. Now I only leave trader feedback if seller leaves it first.
