High-Dollar Purchase, No History...Opinions?

Hi Mike,

I'm really helping my college buddy that is a chemist up in NY. He's on here now "Paul Dodson" is his handle. I don't have time to do anything through, at least, March. I'm going like a one-armed paper hanger in a wind storm.
Hang in there. Me too, but I finally feel like things are starting to get to the point where I can think about shooting and gun stuff again.

You know me..always 12 irons in the fire at once. The real estate career has forced me to reduce that down about 6 fold. Winter time, hopefully, will allow me time for some projects I have on a long bucket list. Miss our frequent talks about shooting stuff.

Good luck to you and your buddy.

Guys,

Asking for a friend that is new here.

He found an item that he is pretty interested in and is basically $1,000.

The rub is that the seller has very few posts and no trading history.

I'd like to hear your opinions about how to go about this purchase with confidence...or if there isn't really a way. :(.
Just ask the guy if someone on here knows him or can vouch for him best way to do it IMHo

I have purchased a lot of high dollar items found on sites like this one. Some with very few posts and even some that sound fishy. Two people have tried to scam me, but SO FAR I have not gotten bit.

I have been successful with having two people ship me the items prior to me sending funds. Most will not.

Like some sights require, I get a picture of the product in a position that I ask for, which the seller has not so far posted or sent and with a copy of that day's new paper from his or her area. Even if someone does not read a newspaper, doesn't cost them much if they are selling a high priced item.

I also ask for a Copy of their Driver's License to be scanned and e-mailed to me.

Lastly, when it is a firearm, I ask them where they shoot and with who and also for the name of a dealer or range officer that knows them. I then google the store or range and call the published number and talk to someone who knows the person.

I have also had someone on the site that lives in the same area and has lots of post, to check it out for me. Many are happy to do that.

As stated, you can't guarantee that you will not get scammed, but you can sure try hard to protect yourself.

I also post on the site where I was, about people who I did a deal with, especially those with low post counts.

Bob
