Question about muzzle threading

I recently had a guy cut, crown and thread a barrel for a suppressor. He builds suppressors, so I assumed he knew his way around a lathe. The black on the right side of the pic is the suppressor adapter, barrel to the left, to give you the layout. These marks extend about 1/4-3/8" behind the crown and continue around the circumference of the barrel.

I just put the Teslong down it last night and was not happy.

What are your thoughts?

What is the correct procedure for turning muzzle threads? I assumed that it was done through the headstock, but this looks like it had some sort of pilot or tailstock center in it.

Thanks for your help.

I agree as well.
Looks like the usual button chatter marks on the lands- and the tooling scratches are in the grooves, where he couldn't have been the cause.

While having 1/10,000 the experience of some here I can't imagine how something like that would happen with any sort live center I've ever seen.

Et al,

That makes sense to me as well after thinking about it for a bit. If I had seen it prior I would have asked him to cut it another 1/2" or so. The rest of the barrel, including the stub piece, have zero marks. Still not happy about it, but I'll see how it shoots.

@Hal McGowen barrel, but it's attached to a Savage

I use a lot of McGowan blanks. Dan has told me that no cutoffs are necessary- just chuck them up and chamber- but I just did one where I discovered the rifling looked as though it had been lapped out for about .175 of the breech end (I started to test-fit the first .0005 under pilot and it was loose as a 20 dollar ho).

If it doesn't shoot, it's worth another look (I'd check the muzzle end with gage pins). The post above about it being a Savage OEM barrel is spot on- I get scared when borescoping them because many of them have chatter marks that are obscene. Doesn't stop them from shooting well.
