Threading muzzle

I will be turning my barrel w/ a annular cutter & pilot & then threading it (5/8-24). I was just going to get a die from Drills & Cutters & was wondering if I should get a one piece or an adjustable die. I was leaning towards the non adjustable. Also, is a standard die precise enough? I am threading the barrel for a suppressor.

That is a project best done in a lathe. If your threads are not concentric with the bore you are likely to hit a baffle with a bullet.

I was planning to turn the OD with an annular cutter using a pilot made for a .308 barrel and cut the threads with a die, not a lathe. I was going to use a annular cutter from Carolina Shooters (https://www.carolinashooterssupply....ar-Cutter-Kit-p/cncw-annular-cutter-12132.htm)

Is an annular cutter with a properly sized pilot not concentric & perpendicular enough with respect to the bore?

You are probably not going to like the accuracy results, even if you are not hitting a baffle.

Have a 'smith take the barrel off the action and do it right.

Setting aside the very real concern noted above about thread concentricity, getting a perfectly faced/perpendicular shoulder suitable for a can would be impossible IMO with this method. It's even more important to have a proper torque shoulder. Threads bring the parts together- it's the shoulders that align them.

It's one thing to use an annular cutter and die for a flash hider, slant brake, etc (and I've done this with AK's which are impossible to set up on a lathe)- quite another where your clearances are measured in thousandths of an inch.

Check to see if the manufacturer of your suppressor has a print/specs for the tenon and have a smith do the work.

It's good advice to thread in a lathe after setting it up. You can thread mostly complete then finish up with an adjustable die if you wish.

Taking it to a smith will be cheaper than buying all the tooling you are talking about

As mentioned before, sub par results and you would have probably as much into tooling and time vs just having a smith do it and having it done right. How expensive is this suppressor you want to gamble with?

I see on thier site they are doing this on an AK, NOT a supressor. You usually have a lot of room to spare with those AK brakes.

I’m all about “getting it done with what you got” and making do in a pinch but…..Threading a muzzle, for a suppressor, with an annular cutter and die is not a good idea. I’m squirming in my chair just thinking about it. No.
