PSA - Noobs and Retail Store Help Rant

you will not hear a single complaint from any Marine or navy corpsman in Phu Bia,,
When they were hunkered down, and the A-4s came in on the deck, there was hot brass and links raining down on them as Charles got lit up. That was my job - make sure the guns work, the napes were fuzed correctly, et cetera. We had some birds come back with vegetation in the bomb rack sway braces.

if it's the type of boresighter I'm thinking about, it fits on the crown with a magnetic base, unless the barrel is cut PERFECT you would need a target the size of a piece of plywood, 4'x8'
I got one , not worth EL TORO CACA,,
Some years ago a friend of a friend was deer hunting with our group. He missed a fantastic buck at around 50 yards. I took him to a makeshift target on a 4'X8' plywood, from 75 yards he missed the plywood. He had purchased a scope somewhere and had it mounted and bore sighted. Picked it up the night before the season opener. So much for bore sighting.

I was down at Ezell's a long time ago. Deer season was coming up. Some guys just left that had wanted him to bore sight a rifle that was, according to them, already sighted in. People, man, people!

I had a guy at a shop lose his s$$t with me because I refused to buy 357Sig ammo to shoot in my 357 magnum wheel gun.

No matter how many boxes of ammo he unpacked to show me its says 357 on the box he just couldn’t understand why I would not buy it and later told me to come back when I know what I want

What is this fancy bore sighter thingy you guys talk about? Damn gizmos. ;)

100 yard range.
6 inch dot on a big piece of backing paper.
Set gun on a solid rest.
Pull bolt.
Look through bore.
Center bore on dot.
Adjust scope crosshairs to dot.
Shot number 1 on the paper.
Shot number 2. Vertical adjusted.
Shot number 3. Horizontal adjusted.
Done:D

This because experience has shown me that noobs will burn up a box of shells without getting zeroed. You have to send them out the door with it printing close for them to have a prayer.

Lol! You probably already knew this but you can use .380 in your Mak.
Luger works now a pinch too but won't feed or fit in a mag. And I wouldn't try it but That's the point of the mak. Can use anything NATO had but NATO can't use mak ammo because it's slightly wider.

Agreed. This is why it is best to take new people to the range, hand hold them and show them how it’s done. I helped the neighbor. Now he’s a monster and kicks my behind.

I'd hold him back to supervise him if I could. Fortunately, he's shooting at a place where the range officer, who is an OK guy, is helping him and backing up what I'm telling him.

Thanks for your service . Unless you repar or build em , using lathes and such are best NOT learned on the web . Put t this way , would you be passenger in if the pilot learned to fly from reading posts on the web .
Yes I'm against not learning first hand , after all ,I took 6 yrs of being the apprentice , 6 1/2 actually ,and cringe every time I hear someone's reasoning . Well , I drive a truck for a living , well , I'm so and so , well then we see that we can't protect em all . Safety is my only concern , not the quality of work , I've seen too many new to machinery get hurt .
But I guess I'm old school . Yes it can be done doesn't mean it should . We are a self governed practice , I'd like to keep it that way .
I'm glad I'm retired , I'm glad you at least have common sense and are a stickler for safety ( otherwise you wouldn't be here ) . I still recommend finding someone and practice with them for awhile .
Rant over , best of luck and thanks for your service .

No pissin match , thanks for your service . My point is , you learned with hands on training . Do you really think someone could learn your trade by asking questions on a forum ? I doubt it . You didnt get to this point in life by being stupid . Non of us have , I feel sorry for the young ones , at least the gov subsidized my pay ( to my boss ) allowing the apprentice program

Yep! I have a friend like yours. I'm new to the sport as well, but he needed a lot more help than I did. He thought he was going to instantly be a great shot because of his experience on the Playstation. To make matters worse, the guys who sighted his $350 Vortex scope at a local outdoor store were so far off that he wasn't even hitting paper. I eyeballed it at the range, made him shoot three shots at 25 yds, adjusted his scope, and had him shoot again at 100. Bingo! The last time I was at the same store looking for rings, one of the salesmen offered to mount and sight the scope for me at no charge. I politely declined.
