PRS "What the pros use"

Just spoke to Shawn at PRS...nice guy! After next months final event of the year in Texas, he said that Cal will probably will put all the data together then.

From the PRS matches I've been around I would say that the caliber of choice is a 6mm something. I see a lot of 6XC and 6 Creedmoor but starting to see more 6 Dashers. Mag feeding issues got the Dasher off to a slow start but I understand that's been worked out and we may see a big swing by 2017 season. Rifles, stocks/chassis, optics and other what i term "hard-gear" are all over the board. It will be interesting to see the gear data when it becomes available. PRS kinda reminds me of the early days of USPSA, as it is just a pure equipment race and a moving target.

I've been thinking of rebarreling to 243 with the Remage setup for that very reason- no gunsmithing costs when a rebarrel is needed. I don't shoot competitively and from what I've read, depending on velocity, a 243 could go 2000+ before accuracy begins to drop of.

With the extra cost of new dies, brass, time for load development, etc. I just don't have the desire to get in to cartridges like the 6XC, 6PPC, or others at this point. I've already got the the tools for Savage barrel swaps so I figured the investment into Remage would be minimal.

243 is not going to be any worse than the other 6mn's burning almost the same amount of powder. I'm going to a 6x47 soon as the Mausingfield shows up. The majority of the guys that shoot at the club I shoot at are shooting 6x47, 6 Creedmoor, 6 dasher or the 6.5 versions. There are still the handful of 308 shooters, and a couple other odd ball calibers.

Would that combo also work for the 243?

I'm running one right now using H1000 and 105 Hornaday. Just started about 400 rounds ago. I have no reason to believe it will not go 3000. This is not the first one I've been around being ran like this. I have my 4th 6mm Competition Match barrel ready to screw on, this cartridge you can hump a 115 DTAC at 3150 easily using H1000.

Don't forget to factor fire forming into your round count and costs when comparing 6CM to .243

I've been contemplating re barreling my 243 to a 6XC but I recently shot H1000 as many suggested on this forum. The gun shoots great and the barrel does not heat up as much as H4350 or other powders. Yes, the 243 case design is inferior to the 6XC, but If I can get 2k-2500 rounds out of a 243 with H1000 I see no reason to change anymore. Furthermore, I don't see how it's possible to get higher velocities with a 6XC over a regular 243. They could be close, but ultimately the powder capacity is greater with the 243. I have a 280 AI and a 300 WSM... Both cannot obtain velocities the same as a 300 Win Mag or a 7mm magnum shooting heavier bullets. I would imagine it to be the same with the 6XC compared to the 243.

It is a 6 Competition Match. It is similar to but not the same as a 243 Ackley Improved but with a 31 degree shoulder
Ok how is this different then the 243 imp *30?
I must live in a cave, the 6 competition match is new to me
