Properly sizing cases

I realize this is an accuracy shooter forum but sometimes we forget that all that are here are not accuracy buffs but just casual reloaders. The Mfgs instructions for adjusting sizing dies are for those that do not or desire the pinpoint accuracy that some seek but to allow the average guy to load hunting and shooting ammo just for his pleasure.

I think markT's post and video was very informative for a lot of loaders trying to get better at it.

Yup. It's a technique. There are many others, but this showcases one of them. It gets a new guy thinking in the right direction. My thoughts watching the video:

Oh, its that dude I can't stand to watch and listen pontificate
Dude has a lot of die sets
Dude's press is janky AF
Why doesn't dude primer hole uniform
Why doesn't dude just measure his fired cases with a comparator and bump his shoulders back .002"

My new 300WM brass stretches .017" upon first firing. Bumping back .002" gives plenty of clearance, and its only stretching back & forth .002" at a time.

Now, I have an "old school" tool less way to measure CBTO, DTL/Jump. It's so easy I wonder why people buy a tool for it. I need to make a video called, "The unreal gunsmith". :)

Randy Selby seems to have stopped learning circa 1970s and has repeated the same thing every day ever since.
So I just got a rifle back from him. An old rifle I sent for a new hart barrel and stock and more , I got it back a few weeks ago but just now have had time to start load development. New Peterson Brass the bolt won’t close, even after full length resizing. His explanation is that he headspace’s to minimum. Great but full length resized new brass should fit the;, next problem. I bore scoped the barrel prior to shipment to him the original barrel was rust pitted. I just bore scoped again and lo and behold my “ new” hart barrel has rust pits. I believe that he recut the chamber on my old barrel and sent it back thinking I wouldn’t know. Now what to do ? I paid him 1730 dollars for a new barrel , stock and brake , I didn’t get the barrel . In my opinion he’s a THIEF

Adjusting the die by factory instruction will produce minimum SAAMI ammo, meant to FUNCTION reliably in factory rifles. Just today I annealed, FL sized some 30 TC brass. I set the die(RCBS) to size to the same as the remaining unfired rds(been reloaded 2-3 times). Brass both fired and sized fit the same, I would think the next firing will result in brass that needs a slight bump. But maybe not as the die and chamber diameter match well. My custom barreled hunting rifles, I send dummy rds (brass lot I will load ammo from) in for the reamer. The new brass has been sized, no shoulder bump, before dummy rd bullet seated to manufacturer recommendation for that cartridge. I specify short free bore, SAAMI necks. These are hunting rifles that will not see factory ammo, but this allows me to produce repeatable brass sizing without custom die. No clickers, little or no trimming, easy die setup. Very accurate hunting rifles, with good optics, that hold zeros for multiple seasons.

I'm sorry to hear that. Be vocal about it.

I honestly feel for you, but the question that begs to be asked is did you confront him with this and what did he say..
