A recent pronunciation correction of a word made me want to start this thread.
Over the years I have followed main stream pronunciations of outdoor products and later found myself to be pronouncing them wrong. Just thought we could start a list of proper pronunciations so other folks are not lead astray like I was. Please add to the list any proper pronunciations you know to be true.

Leupold: "Lee-uh-pold". Not "Loo-pold". And that is straight from the Leupold manufacturing plant in Oregon.

Sako: "Sock-o". Not "Say-ko".

Kahles: "Kay-less". Not "Kails" (Editor: first syllable is "Kah" not "Kay")

Ogive: "Oh-jive". Not "Oh-giv"

Secant: "See-kant". Not "seh-kant"

Lapua: "Luh-pwah". Not "Luh-poo-uh" (Editor: first syllable is "lah" not "luh")

Blaser (rifles): "Blah-zerr". Not "Blay-zerr"

This is a great idea! I don't have anything to contribute yet as you have two of the ones I was thinking of, ogive and sako. Both of which I have been pronunciating incorrectly for sometime now. Thanks BigDMT

The word SAKO could be listed as S.A.K.O. since it is four different words. To pronounce the four, one must be Finnish, so the pronunciation of the abbreviation is not important. James

If you call Krieger barrels, they will tell you "kree-gerr" so you have to go with that.

SAKO may be 4 different words, but the company still pronounces their acronym as "Sock-o"

Another one to add :
Sig Sauer : "Sigg-Sow-err"

Never thought I would get an English lesson on this site. I would look to Accurate English. com LOL . But it can,t hurt.. Tommy Mc..

Some of my favorites

Sabot or sabots (french for a type of shoe) the "T" is silent. Something like "sa-bow or plural sa-bowz"

I still like "Say-ko" and don't consider it worth two-tenths of a whit which pronunciation a person uses. You left out Ron Hoehn "hayne".

Reminds me of the lady on her first trip to Hawaii and in her excitement she asks the guy seated beside her, "Is it correct to say 'Ha-wy-ee' or 'Ha-vy-ee'? He replied, "Ha-vy-ee". The lady thanked him and he said, "You're velcome".

Sometimes you can tell what part of the country a person is from by their lingo. It's right or wrong, just different.

As for me, my rifle still has a lu-pold scope, cry-ger barrel, and is stuffed with la-pu-a brass.

Lapua -- the Finnish guys pronounce it more like "lah-puwha" rather than "luh pwha" with sort of even accent on the "lah" and "puwha". There is an "oo" sound in there but it runs together with the "wha" sound.

Kahles -- The German rep pronounced this "Kah - less" not "Kay-less". Definitely two syllables though.

I use to work for a chemist from Germany, Dr Manfred Leupold. He was here for the company on a 4 year stint. He insisted that his last name was pronounced Loy-pold
