Prone Vs Bench

It's doable, i pulled target at 1K for Brandon Green once when he was testing a rifle barrel, said that it would rise as it heated up... so when he started the first shot was at 4 o'clock and the subsequent shots were in a straight vertical line as the each shot came down it did in fact rise some, ten shot string was one inch wide and 8 inches high in a vertical line, that saying, if he hadn't had that issue, he very well could have shot a ten shot group in the size about 2 inches.. at 1000 yards. I myself have put 8 shots into a 2 inch group at 900 yards before. So yeah, it can be done, there are lots of guys that can do that! And they are way better than i am
Brandon is a bench rest in his sling.

If you have to hold the rifle in two hands while prone and on your elbows how in ell can you shoot a better group than off a front rest and rear sandbag? Just curious :)

The F-Class guys use front and rear rests while shooting from prone. So as long as they stay comfortable they are very stable. I still like a good bench setup better.....

With the same gear it's hard to see why there would be any difference.
Unless you have physical issues that make prone uncomfortable.
I'm probably better f-open than bench but I shoot prone almost all the time.
As somebody else mentioned, if I just put the prone setup on the bench it's not really optimum,

If Brandon Green had spent as much time learning to shoot groups from benchrest as he has spend learning to shoot from the prone position, he would shoot better groups from the bench than prone.

Which position does everyone shoot better groups with? Anyone think that one is just plain better then the other ? Many people tell me I need to get in a bench if I what to shoot as best as possible instead of prone ,but I personally never feel very comfortable or that I shoot well off of a bench.
What say y'all ?
How do you define good shooting?

There's good bench rest shooting, (not me), there's good shooting in different competition disciplines, (not me).

I only care about holes in paper when working loads but I'll describe what I call good shooting. Years ago my range had a ground hog infestation. My son and I were there I was zeroing an old model 17 Remington 06 with iron sights, we were starting to pack up and my back was toward down range, my son said he saw a chuck just out past the 200 yard backstop.

I turned drop a round in, leaned against the pavilion post and fired in about 10 seconds with a 103 year old WWI battle rifle. We walked out to pick up the kill, 265 yards with iron sights standing while leaning against a post. I don't know crap about good groups.

Coulda woulda if...
Figure out what works best for you and do it.
I'm pretty equal. Prone or bench, doesn't matter to me. A ragged whole or tight group from either.

my shooting is all done from te hood of the truck or laying on the ground with a bipod... so .. if i can hit a gopher at 150 yards from those positions im happy..

Ummm ??? Not sure where you got the impression I shot like that, this is my general deal, that or a bipod and rest bag...IMG_20220930_104348490.jpg
