Problem With Garmin Xero Update 03/21/25

Heads Up. My Xero updated its firmware this morning while I was at the range. My Xero went from performing flawlessly for thousands of rounds to missing over 75% of my shots. Not knowing what was going on, I tried all the usual fixes: change placement, change surface, off-on, factory reset. Nadda, zilch, null set .... my last 20-round string, Garmin recorded 3 of the first 5, then for the next 15, nothing.

I called Garmin and was told others are reporting the same problem. Garmin emailed me a list of questions as Garmin is in the data-gathering stage. Most of the questions related to user errors, but this is clearly a bug in their update.

I would recommend not upgrading until this issue gets resolved unless you are in the market for a pricy paperweight.

This is one of the reasons I leave bluetooth off on my phone, esp at the range. That said this is kinda weird because I thought one of the earlier updates had fixed that issue to where it wouldn't auto update firmware.

Thanks for letting us know. Seems from your call with them they didn't actually do much QA before rolling out the update, or certainly not enough. Stuff like that will kill sales overnight, especially when a competitor has a much less expensive product out (I have no idea how those perform, just it's considerably less $$$).

Just looked, my android app version hasn't changed and it doesn't indicate a firmware update is available. I suppose it might not show that until the unit is connected, but given the app knows firmware version from last connection not showing the update would be in the realm of poor coding. IMO.

Yip two of us are having the same problem.
Definitely missing shots. In some cases it flashes like it has registered tge shot but it doesn't update. Other times it doesn't register the shot.

Are you shooting off of a bench, or prone?

I know of a couple of others that were having the issue and both were shooting prone. When they shot from the bench, it was fine. Seems that when shooting prone, using the included tripod, there was too much interference from the ground. Once they raised the Garmin up a few inches, it worked just fine.

I have shot many hundreds from prone with the included tripod and never missed a shot. Must be pushing 1k rounds.

Mine did the exact same thing!! Missed 19 out of 50 shots this morning! And one or two yesterday right before I updated it when it was prompting me to update it but I waited till I got home

Years ago I was a network admin running Netware servers, the guy before me
always ran the latest patches and had many issues. I only ran patches when
absolutely necessary, why run new code with a reliable system.
Turned the Novel servers off 20 years ago (yes I’m that old), and agree at the the time there was no reason to run the latest code. Fast forward to today, with zero day vulnerabilities, auto patching (generally a good thing) imagine finally clicking the buy now button with the current sale, greeting the UPS man, powering up and connecting to your phone, updating cause it’s likely a few versions behind, and then reading this thread :-(

The 3.30 update says it added downrange mode to pro settings. Have you explored that option, that maybe something is looking further downrange and increased chance it could miss a shot?

Maybe turn pro settings off.

Good ole Netware abends, 99% of the time from poorly written NIC drivers running in ring 0. Seemed like a good idea at the time, turns out, it wasn't.

Wish I saw this thread before this morning. Mine updated after my first string of 15.

Immediately started missing shots after it updated. Didn’t miss any of the first 15.
