Printing your own target's? ?

For those of you who print there own target's what kind of paper do you use? The regular printer paper I have used previously tears and doesn't create a clean hole.

Re: Printing you own target's? ?

I use the paper that is used for business cards. They sell it at Fed-Ex Kinko! I use either Orange or Yellow>>>easy to see the bullet holes clearly..

I have an Epson 700 Artisan which has settings for thin (printing) to thick paper for photos. It prints just fine. Although, I had to get a new computer and I can't seem to hook the Wireless up and so momentarily I am "printerless"!..LOL!!

Cardstock, as mentioned, works great for showing bullet holes as it doesn't tear/rip like the lightweight/thin 20# paper does. Never had a problem with it feeding, just don't stick too many sheets in there. If I need 3 targets, I load three sheets.

I got ahold of a case of Staples' Sticker paper.

Works well and no staples (pun intended).

It helps if you put slight tension on the lighter weight paper when mounting it on the target frame.

Guess I will have to give it a go. If the printer dosent like it there will be extra project paper for my son.

Print a "blank" sheet to see if your printer has issues.

110 lb card stock works well for me. On some printers you will need to have it exit through the rear for a straighter run. I use an HP Laserjet 2420(rear exit) and occasionally an Hp Officejet Pro, front exit, have no problems with either.

I let Staples do the printing. I print off a sample on regular weight paper at home and then have Staples print it on heavier stuff. I'm not sure the exact type of paper but it may not be quite as thick as a regular business card. It is still stiff and not too floppy. However, it doesn't like getting wet. It holds up, but groups are more difficult to measure.

I don't have a home printer that is good for volume printing. Another thing I have printed at Staples is my semi-proprietary score sheets. I have one color for service and military bolt matches, another for F-class and a third for bench rest.

20# bond works pretty well for me if I use a spray adhesive and stick the entire back of the paper's surface to the backer board.

+1

I use the regular 20# paper but the only time it tears is when there is no backer to support it. This can be an issue when going to a public range and the backer are all shot out. I use a large construction paper backer that I clip onto the stands. My girl & I have been able to reuse them several times by placing new targets in the same place as the old ones. Do you crisper holes than these:

Staples sells a 67# heavy stock that I have settled on. I use the light grey or light blue, either of these are easy on the eyes on bright days. I have used the 110# card stock as well and it works fine, just a little easier to print the lighter stuff.

I got some used manilla folders at a going out of business sale when a company here closed up shop. Only the tabs had writing on them.Sinclair sells target stamps and ink pads . I got 6 zerox boxes full of folders. They are too thick to feed through my printer but the stamps work great.

I found some cheap targets at Midwayusa. Went to office/office store and had them make me a rubber stamp 1" square. I reverse the targets and stamp squares on the back side. Usually three on the left side and three on the right with two in the middle. I've found this great for testing loads and groups with different loads. Besides, it saves a lot of walking.
