Primer pocket uniformer question

I just purchased the Sinclair primer pocket uniformer/larger, part number UN-8003.
I tried it last night in several different calibers and brands of brass but it didn't remove any brass on any of them. It is as if it doesn't cut deep enough. It removed a little bit of the carbon on some but didn't get down to the brass on any of them.
What am I missing here?

Looks like un-8003 is a large “pistol” uniformer.

I use a Lyman uniformer to clean my pockets.
I've noticed on my normal brass it barely touches corners of pockets on 1/4 of that set of brass, but cuts my hornady sets every time.
Thinking webs haven't been expanded on some of the norma as much as others.
Pockets are still tight and the go boom!!

Ive uesd the Sinclair uniformer for years. It cuts about 20% of the Lapua brass. Usually the cuts a very small amount out of the center around the flash hole.

I quit doin pockets bout 4 yrs ago... just clean them... but I'm still dumber than hell just sayin..I cut some a little deep trying to clean them up.... then I discovered peterson & lapua brass

I’ve used the K&M for years. Some brass it barely touches the corners (Hornady), Lapua seems to only take a small amount. Alpha is a fair amount.
Does it make any difference? I don’t know, but I sleep better knowing that they are all the same.

The Sinclair is set to within SAAMI spec and not unusual for case primer pockets to be something different. After the brass has been fire a couple/few time the floor of the pocket will move upward and so eventually you'll reach a point where your uniformer will removing some of the brass.

I use the RCBS carbide uniformers for large and small pockets as they are adjustable. I've set the depth to where I want it and uniform away. I haven't changed my setting once it was set where I want it.

Here's pics of what I use (note the quick change set up I have for my driver):

I have always use the Sinclair. Its' a set "sami" depth" I don't know where I read it but at some point came across an article that told me to only cut or "true" primer pockets after at least 2 firings. Makes a lot of sense to me because in the 1st 2 firings things are changing. After that - leave them alone

I use mine at every reload. Most of the time it never removes any more brass, occasionally it will remove a slight amount. I figure that I just didn’t get cut all the way the first time.
Are you saying the primer pocket will continue to get shallower?
I realize that the pockets will open up after time and the brass has to go somewhere.

My mistake in not researching enough. I knew I read either large pistol/large rifle were the same or small pistol/small rifle were the same. When I saw on the package it only said large with no reference to rifle or pistol I assumed it worked on either. I should have done less assuming. No problem, I will use it on 45LC brass. I ordered a new carbide cutter so I should be good to go eventually. Thanks much for the replies, what a great source of information!

I have an inexpensive Lyman set and they don't touch bottom on unfired brass, large or small primer versions. Once the brass is fired a couple times, they will begin to noticeably remove material from the pockets; especially carbon from the corners and a little brass around the flashhole. However, there could be another issue potentially in play here. Years ago when I switched to Palma (SRP) brass for the .308 Win, I noticed my Lyman primer pocket uniforming tool didn't reach anywhere near the bottom of the pocket, even with fired brass. Turns out the depth of the primer pocket is greater in Palma brass as compared to, say, a .223 Rem case, and a different tool is needed. I bought the tool from K&M that also fits the 6BR case SRP pockets and is designed to cut deeper (as well as adjustable) and it works just fine with Palma brass. On a .223 Rem case, it would cut way too deep.

I use the K&M that Ned mentioned, just enough to ''true'' the pockets. For cleaning I use the
J Dewey primer pocket cleaner (Large on one end Small on other), couple of twist's and there clean:)

Me too. I wash ‘em up in hot water with a splash of Dawn and white vinegar then clean the pockets with a Q tip. They’re still holdin’ primers... ‍♂️

I am confused Ned, the same primers are used in both pieces of brass. Why would you want them at different depths?
The K&M tool sets the depth at a consistent .122, CCI BR-4 is the primer I mostly use and it end up .003 below flush.
