Primer marks on 40S&W Cases

I shot my .40 S&W reloads today and noticed the primer caps had these marks on them. Has anyone seen this and what may be the cause. I've never seen it before today and all cases were the same. I shoot a Roger SR-40, Hornady cases, WSP, 180 gr Hornady XTP, and 7.1 gr Small Pistol, @ specified CO

If you Google primer drag you will find many videos on the subject. And it happens more with smaller compact striker fired pistols. I have a full size Glock 22 .40 S&W and do not have a problem with primer drag. That being said all my reloads are light to medium reloads. And you might see the primer drag with hot loads in a full size Glock. "BUT" I have never seen it in my Glock .40 even with hot factory loads.

I was watching the Military Arms Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ-qxagOkAmCEP-Tu6YliUQ and he covered the changes in strikers to prevent striker breakage but I could not find the specific video. You will have fun watching his videos anyway.

Watch the video below it explains why it happens. In a full size Glock I would blame soft primers and look for harder ones.

.

You can call me a wuss but below is what I shoot the most. I like it when the cases just falls in a pile by my right foot and I don't have to look all over for my brass. If the case hits your shoulder and falls in your shirt pocket just add a little more powder.

Found the MAC videos showing primer drag or striker drag. It 3:47 in the morning and I'm starting to "drag" so always remember that Google is your best friend for finding info.

Thanks guys. I didn't even know what to Google so I jumped straight to the forum that I know would get the correct info. This is my first encounter with any type of hand gun issues. I really like the way it shoots at 7.1 gns but I think I will back it off until the drag stops and if I don't like the results on paper I will change powder and primer and try again. Again, thank all of you for the info.

Do you have a standard SR-40 or a compact model? The drag can cause the striker tip to break over time. The first thing I would do is disassemble the slide and remove the striker and clean this area inside the slide. I read some posts where there was manufacturing debris left in the striker channel.

Below is a broken striker from a Sig P365 that had major striker drag problems and went through three strikers mods. If you have a standard size SR40 you should not have any striker drag. Many reports say it has to do with the size of the slide and its mass. Meaning full size pistols do not have this problem and my full size Glock .40 does not have any striker drag.

I know of a baby 10mm glock that has swipes on it just like the OP and it has probably 2000rds on it with no breakage. Guess the shape of the glock pin probably helps it to not break.

Glock OEM 10mm and .45acp striker below, its strength comes from being elongated and not shaped like a pin.

I have the same marks on my Glock 22 .40 S&W as the Glock 10mm below.

Sorry bout the delay guys, been working. Thanks for the responses. My SR40 is full size model and I have not looked at the striker since it was shot but I did clean the gun completely a couple weeks ago but wasn't shot until this happened. I will break it back down and look at it. There is always a possibility that something could have gotten in it to interfere with the striker retracting. If not i will just order an extra striker to have just in case.
