Primer Choice for BRA

Not many 6BRAs running around in 2017. I think I chambered the first 6BRA in 2016-2017. Tom Mousel named it the 6BRA. Others were doing versions of the 6BR Ackley Improved for many years prior though.

I looked at the results of the 600y Nationals and almost all were using 450's

I believe you would want to do a ladder for each primer to be fair.

Federal 205M’s have worked for me in all four 6BR Improved barrels (Krieger and Hawk Hill) I have worked with so far. I really think you can make most any primer work if you develop a load around it. Will it be the best primer, that’s a good question. Once I have a rifle shooting 2-3” groups at 1K, I stop testing because the rifle is competitive and I am just putting unnecessary wear on the barrel. So far, I have not even had to test with the 450’s or BR4’s I have on hand.

I don't think there is one primer to rule the world. Seems like you can work up tuning with most primers, just a matter of seeing which one your rifle) load combo tunes with.

I think what sells the CCI is it's a harder primer then the federal. I know guys running a Dasher appreciate that..

I think if you don't screw things up yourself by over sizing and firing pin protrusion is right and your firing pin fit is right along with spring pressure. Use what shoots the best, I ran a dasher to 3100 with fed. primers with out issues. I know guys that blew CCI 450's. and it wasn't a top load..... Use what works...... jim

I agree but I know why many steer to the CCI. I like federal primers and use them in my WSM.
