6BR Primer Choice

I have a new 6BR build I am getting ready to load for. This is my first 6BR and am excited to get started with all I have heard about the inherit accuracy of this cartridge.

The rifle consists of a Viper action, Brux 28" 8 twist, Shehane ST-1000 stock and Jewel trigger built by Stick @ S&S Precision.

The components I have on hand are Varget & VV-150 powder, Burger BT Target, Burger Hybrid Target & Lapua Scenar-L bullets and Federal 205M primers.

So my questions is it seems most data I have read favors the CCI 450 or BR4 primers. I know the CCI 450 is a magnum primer but not sure if the BR4 is considered a magnum primer as well. Is a magnum primer required for this cartridge with the powder I have on hand or will the F-205M work.

I know this questions is better answered with load testing at the range but was wondering if anyone has had good results with the F-205M primers with their 6BR.

Also I don't object to getting some CCI primers but was wondering what the general consensus is on the 450 opposed to the BR4.

If you would like to share what loads work for you that would be appreciated as well.

Thanks for your input, TimP

It has been my experience with 1 6mmBR and 2 6mm Dashers that Varget LOVES the CCI 450's with CCI BR4's running a VERY close second.. I have found that in the 6mmBR that VV N150 may very well prove to be the most accurate powder. However, in my Dashers, for whatever reason, it was not desirable at all. I would work with the 105 Scenars FIRST.. They do not have as HIGH a B.C. as the Hybrids, however, it is doubtful you will find a more accurate bullet! Set them somewhere between 10 off and 7-8 IN the lands with about 29.5 to 30.3grs of Varget with a CCI 450 and you will not be disappointed! If you use VV N150, start at the same grs but you can safely (in most rifles) to 30.6grs.. My fav load with that powder was with 30.4grs and it will make those Scenars SCREAM out of the barrel getting close to 2900f.p.s. with AWESOME accuracy! Good Luck and let us know how things are moving along..
As always, be very mindful of pressure when you work these loads..

A magnum primer is not necessarily more powerful - and some times they are less "powerful" (lower velocity) - the concept of magnum primer has to do with the duration of the flame - it is longer to ignite hard to lite powders. So you do not need a magnum cartridge to use a magnum primer - a lotta bench shooters use the 450.

All rifles are different, my 6BR loves Norma 203B powder and Fed205M primers, got my best accuracy and lowest SD's with this combo also with 105 scenars :)

I don't use a strait 6br but a 6-BRDX. I have found for my set up the 450's work but the 205's work better. I have tested powders such as RL15, varget, h4895, N150 and a few other ones along the way. My go to load for my gun using Berger 105 hybrids is 32.2gr and 205. Not even the 205M this was just what I had and have at the moment.

Best thing is to get out and see what works in your gun.

Thanks all... I found some CCI 450 and BR4 primers and will give a try along with the F-205M I have on hand.
